I have a name for the series of fics that all take place in the same universe as the fic Sanctuary that I started ages back. I am starting a new topic for the lot of them.  This post will have a regularly updated link list to both AO3 and FFN, or at least I will try to, as well as a basic reading order list.  Or you can just find them all in order on the series page on AO3.

Enchanted Teen
When Clef said he was going to Ďgrow-upí, Umi wasnít sure what she was expecting, but she definitely hadnít anticipated how attractive he would turn out to be, or the effect it would have on her.
AO3 and FFN

Good Advice Teen
In which Umi needs advice about a boy, and Clef's not sure he should be the one giving it to her.
AO3 and FFN

Sanctuary Teen(FFN)/Adult(AO3)
When Clef somewhat accidentally invites Umi to stay at his house for a week, it's the start of changes that happen faster than either of them anticipated. Unfortunately, with the laws still in the way, the consequences of that summer may spiral far out of their controlÖ
AO3 and FFN

If you want to discuss this fic series, feel free to add your thoughts.

I made cookies!  I keep trying to experiment to get something like the Little Debbies gingerbread men. I should just give up and try to make graham crackers or something, but these ended up being pretty tasty today.  I'm glad I made them even though they still aren't what I like.

Also!  Moana Reo Moari!  It will be glorious and I am totally getting it on DVD when it comes out. I don't even fucking care!

For those that don't know, the songs are now posted in MP3 as well as ogg, so if you don't have all the music, and you want to listen, you can do so.

I still haven't finished my collection of CDs. I should try to do that.

It still exists and I still love it!

He's a bookish voodoo paramedic on the edge. She's a mistrustful out-of-work queen of the dead with a song in her heart and a spring in her step. They fight crime!

I've looked through everything that I have. I can't find it.  The art looks very on model and the handwriting looks right, so I do think it is CLAMP, but I am not sure.

I've fallen very behind so far, but I have worked out some very silly backstory elements to this fic which keep making me giggle, so I guess that is something.

(Where did all the Ascot thoughts just come from?)
*taps fingers together evilly* All according to keikaku.

Of course!  It's all your fault I now have more Ascot headcanons!

In addition to the calendar, I also worked out when I want to mark the characters birthdays.  I went by which page they first appeared on, or for some of the multiple characters, what was the first page they spoke on. I just kept charting in a circle, which would be why some of the second half characters turn up in the early months, too.

This is still out of the 13 months system. If you want to have an idea of Earth birthdates, according to my current reckoning for this fic, Festival was on 17 November in 1996. Which means 1st of the 1st month was on 18 November.

In the first month:
  • Emeraude on the 1st
  • Zagato on the 27th

In the second month:
  • Clef on the 8th
  • Aska & Sang Yung on the 16th
  • Chang Ang on the 17th
Tarta & Tatra on the 23rd
  • Alcyone was on the 28th

In the third month, Caldina was born on the 22nd. I'm not sure what that is on Chizeta.

I have no one in the fourth month.

In the fifth month:
  • LaFarga on the 8th
  • Presea on the 10th

Again, no one in the sixth month.

In the seventh month, there is only Ferio on the 28th

Then there is no one we know who was born in months eight to eleven.

In month twelve:
  • Ascot on the 3rd
  • All the Autozam boys on the 24th or (Eagle on 25th, Geo on 26th, and Zazu on 27th)

Then Lantis is the only one in the thirteenth month on the 12th.

I got to sleep in!  This was the first Wednesday in months I have been able to sleep past 7 and I feel so much more awake this evening!

Also brownies!  I made some and they were fantastic!

So..... It's that time of year again....

Who is planning to participate?

What are you thinking of writing?

What is even going on?

(For those that may not have heard of it. NaNoWriMo is National Novel Writing Month. Basically, the goal is to write a 50,000 word ROUGH DRAFT of a novel over the 30 day month of November. Which, for Americans can be a little..... complicated, as there is a big family holiday right in the final stretch. You can join other people in your area with write-ins and things on the NaNoWriMo website.)

If we are not already writing buddies, and you want to add me, I'm Sideshows & Gorillas.

I'm still undecided this year.  As I keep having Sanctuary stuck in my head, I might as well try to finish the next five chapters or something....  Who knows....

Who else is writing this year?

Yami no Yume / Re: Tea Appreciation Post
« on: October 28, 2017, 11:30:01 AM »
I'm now running low on one of the teas I really liked from Teavana so I have looked up the ingredients so I could try to work out how to make my own when I am completely out. It was such a nice tea.  But between the fact that they all have 'natural flavor' as an ingredient, and I would have to order rather a lot if I wanted it shipped over, it is more sensible to just put my own together.

There were two that were very nice together, and looking at the ingredients, I can see why.

Samurai Chai Mate:
Green matť, rooibos, cinnamon, candied pineapple pieces (pineapple, sugar), candied papaya pieces (papaya, sugar), orange peels, natural flavor, lemongrass, anise seed, coriander, cardamom.

White Ayurvedic Chai:
White tea, cinnamon, lemongrass, candied pineapple pieces (pineapple, sugar), candied coconut pieces (coconut, sugar), ginger pieces, cloves, natural flavor, black pepper, cardamom.

Though, looking at the website, I see they are now offering a blend of Samurai Chai with a newer blend called Maharaja Chai Which sounds interesting.

Maharaja Chai:
Cinnamon, oolong tea, ginger, carob pieces, chicory root, natural flavor, black pepper, cloves, cardamom.

Again with the natural flavors....  *rolls eyes*  But I will have to play with some of my own blends.  I'll post a recipe if I work out something nice.

I send you my belated welcome greetings, then.

I think you wandered over here from a link I must have posted on your Rayearth forum ages back. Probably...  But that was years ago.

The forum is a bit quiet lately, but we are all still around.

Mokona no Yume / A Cephiran Calendar & Character Birthdays
« on: October 27, 2017, 12:13:33 PM »
I said in chat that I would make a post about this.

For my fic Sanctuary and other fics in that same universe I have come up with a Cephiran calendar. Itís very simple and basic, but means that I have a very good reason for the New Year festival to have been at a time the girls couldnít attend until the year before.

Basically, I have given Cephiro a 365 day year. Though, you might technically say it is a 364 day year with a bonus day.

Weeks are still seven nights. The days translate very simply to Firstday, Secondday, Thirdday, Fourthday, Fifthday, Sixthday, and Seventhday. I havenít decided if the reckoning is from sunrise or sunset or an arbitrary time in the middle somewhere (like midnight).

There are 13 months of 4 weeks (28 days) each.  I have yet to work out what the months are called right now. Iím guessing things having to do with the agricultural industries, perhaps. Or they could just be numbers.  Weíll see what I decide before Clef starts dropping month names in about six or seven chapters time.

The festival day part of a three day festival thing. Every thing in the country sort of stops. There are parties and celebrations all over. The biggest being the one held at the castle.

Day 1: The last day of the last month.  It is the  celebration for the end of the year, and everything that happened. There is always a big party of some sort. And at the castle, you have that yearís chronicle scroll unrolled around the great hall turned ball room with lots of dancing and celebration before it is rolled back up. There is lots of talk about the bits that people read while the chronicle was unrolled, if it was interesting.

Day 2: Is the Festival day. The festival day itself is for general revelry. It tends to be an excuse for many to cut loose and have a good time.  It is the wildest night of any of the celebrations. Lots of alcohol, lots of dancing, lots of enjoying the night and company it brings.

Day 3: The first day of the first month of the new year. It is a time for looking ahead toward the connections to be made and things to be done in the new year. This is the time when people start making plans about what they want their new year to be.  The new chronicle scroll is started and the year begins anew. It is also a time to gain a blessing or a prayer on your house and family. I havenít worked out exactly how temples and shrines work in this cephiro, so bear with me while I work that out?

Added bonus fun of the festival day not being counted into the year or week specifically, means that the days of the week keep shifting between Earth and Cephiro.  Like for one Cephiran year Firstday may correspond with Sunday, then after the New year begins, Firstday is now on the same day as Monday on Earth. Meaning the activities everyone is doing in Cephiro shifts.

Like if Council meetings are the first and second Sixthday of the month, then they were on Friday between March - 1st half of Nov 1996  according to my reckoning, and after the Festival (which was the first time the actual festival day fell on a Sunday while the girls were visiting) Sixthday is now Saturday, so council meetings happen then, changing Sunday visits because the week shifted, but not everyoneís work patterns did.

Some elements of post have been discussed in Do Cephirans remain youthful in appearance until they die? You might want to go check that out. But this is an interesting topic and always fun to discuss from a new angle.

1. Is every one in Cephiro capable of willing themselves to youth? Including the ordinary people like the villagers? Or its just only applicable to those who could uses magic?

Like everything else in Cephiro, I think age appearance has a lot to do with will power.  How strong is that personís will? Just your average person, no, I donít think there is all that much variance on what they look like or how fast or slow they age.

The stronger someoneís will, the stronger their ability to change their appearance.

Like Ferio. Ferio hasnít shown us that he has any magic ability, but I do think he has a very strong will. Not nearly as strong as say Clef or even Umi, but still strong enough that he is probably older than he looks. (Not a lot older, but still older)

2. If everyone (ordinary people/villagers) could will themselves to their youthful appearance why is that there are old people? I mean really, who would want to look old if you have the ability to be young.
Well, with age you gain a different level of respect in other places. I think it can go the other way in Cephiro. Someone who is very old, but able to hold a very young form would be considered to be a very powerful person in some ways.

I do think there are old villagers. I also think that Cephirans who could change their appearance when they were younger lose that ability when they are reaching a very old age, and or getting close to death (even if it is illness and not age that gets them)

3. Can a child will themselves to adulthood? (I was thinking of Ascot who instantly made himself adult)

How do their spawn grow? has more conversation about children growing, if you are interested.

I donít think Ascot changed instantly. It seems instant because, like the girls, we didnít see the time that passed in Cephiro between the end of MKR and the beginning of MKR 2. I feel like it could have been longer than it was for the girls. A few years even!

I do think that Ascot grew up faster than he probably should have. Mostly because a lot of things are happening and his outer appearance is probably a reflection of the maturity he has gained through his experiences. And I am not entirely sure I consider Ascotís form that of an adult so much as a teenager. Just a very tall (and a list gangly) teenager.  Maybe about 15-16-ish?  Which is getting into that grey area of when do you consider someone to be physically mature?

As I mentioned the above post, I donít think children have control over their appearance until they are somewhere between 3-5 years old. And even then, I donít think they can do much adjustment beyond their emotional maturity level. It would not be a good idea for a child to be able to take an adult form before they are ready to be an adult. That could lead to all sort of difficulties for them, especially in the fact it would leave them more open to exploitation. They can look a little older, or a little younger.

Ascot may have stayed smaller longer than usual because of his history. Emotional trauma can effect when you emotionally mature (either holding you back or thrusting you forward), thus could also have an effect on physical maturity.   So an emotionally safer space with Caldina and LaFarga, etc may have been what he needed to grow up to what he should have beenÖ

(Where did all the Ascot thoughts just come from?)

4. Why do you think Emeraude and Clef chose to look like a child than a teen or on their mid-twenties?

I think Emeraude looked like a child for protection. It was probably thought that holding a child form would keep you from having adult feelings, so you couldnít fall in love. Which is a sensible thought if you are the pillar and not allowed to fall in love.

But it probably just keeps you from getting the physical responses, not the emotional ones. So you can still fall in love, but you wonít want to sleep with that person.

I think Clef took the form in respect for the pillar holding it. I mean I have at least one fanon idea that he is also under some of the same rules and regulations as the pillar as far as love goes, so he thinks it a prudent choice for many of the same reasons. But even if that were not the case, it would be impolite for the person closest to the pillar to be in a relationship with someone when the pillar is not allowed.

There is an old thread (from the first year of this forum) where we started talking about Clefís choice: Why does clef stay in his small state?

5. Do you think everyone in Cephiro doesnít have the appearance that matches their age?

I think for the most part (baring exceptionally strong willed people who hold the form of children for specific reasons) most people look the age their emotional maturity level dictates.

6. How about Caldina? She is mainly from Chizeta, is she also capable of willing herself to youth? Because she now lives in Cephiro.

Caldina has strong magic, but it is Chizetan magic.  I donít know exactly what her will power level would be, so I donít know if she would be able to change her age in the future.  At the moment, I donít think she is terribly old. maybe 25-30 in maturity level?

I havenít actually given it much thought.  Perhaps someone else might like to weigh in?

But most of all, what are your thoughts on the matter?
