I know we like to chat and flail and laugh about a lot of AU ideas.  a lot of them are kinda half-baked, and some are thought out carefully but never see the light of day as a proper fic, and some of course end up being fics or whatever.  personally I get a lot of amusement from all the AUs so this thread is just to toss in the various proposed AUs so they can be enjoyed in theory.

there's a Fuupunzel one that Del and I tossed around that I don't think will ever be written but it's still fun to just think about.  going off the Disney movie, Fuu has long golden hair and is kept in a tower by Alcyone who uses Fuu's magic powers to stay young and pert.  Ferio is in Flynn's role, he tries to hide in Fuu's tower, she outwits him and gets him to take her to see the lanterns.  the twist is that Ferio is the stolen/missing royal baby.  the King and Queen have since died but their daughter Emeraude is still alive and she releases lanterns for her missing brother every year on his birthday.

aaand that's about all that's decided.  I know we talked about some other things but tbh I don't remember them.  I just love Fuu being wily and Ferio being a scamp and Emeraude!!!


I also must mention Del's current bunny, the modern (urban? ish?) Magic Teacher AU where Clef teaches the girls and other MKR characters how to use their magic.  THIS IS MY JAM.

I'll start.

I watched the first couple eps of MKR2 a few weeks ago, and when the girls were first talking to Clef and offering to help in any way they can, even by just helping in the kitchen or something, Clef is just like "no, you are warriors" and despite (IMHO) the bad writing in that episode, that line got me really emotional like omg my little babiesss

sometimes I think about how all of Clef's other students spent years under his tutelage learning how to awaken and harness their magic.  it's absolutely a skill though I do think like all skills, most people who excel in it have a natural talent for it already.  but the Knights not only spent basically zero time learning how to use magic, they also didn't really believe in it as a real thing until the moment their magic was awakened by Clef.  I dunno, to me that just speaks to how these girls not just had an existing predisposition to magic, but that they are, because of their role as Magic Knights and the need for them to act quickly, very very talented at it, because they basically taught themselves everything via their strong wills and the need to get better.

I like to think that once things settle down, Clef finally has time to take the girls under his wing and actually teach them properly.  cause their use of magic is really raw, not refined, I'd think.  basically they got so good just because they had the drive to be, not because they were taught to do it right.  like when they get really angry they might let off bursts of it and especially with Hikaru that can be super dangerous.  and he teaches them how to do more refined things like, Hikaru can warm up her drink if it's gotten cold, or Umi can manipulate physical water around her, or Fuu can levitate small things for short periods of time.  or better ideas someone else might have?  because the girls are incredibly talented and strong and powerful so they can kick ass with their magic, but Clef could teach them how to really make it part of who you are, how to really be your magic.

and it would be so nice???  for Clef to just spend time with the Knights.  he loves his students so much and I think that's a major way for him to bond with people, is through coaching them in their magic, so the girls just grow closer with him as they get better with their magic.

(I also headcanon Clef as being really bothered by sloppy technique, there is a WAY to do things CORRECTLY and it is an ART FORM but the Knights are pretty much totally self-taught so he's trying to fix their bad habits and tbh has the same problem with Ascot haha)


ALSO somewhat related and because I'll forget to mention it later, do you consider the Knights' magic to be the literal element they work in, or do you think Hikaru uses like "magic fire" which isn't literal physical fire but magical energy that behaves like fire?  or is she literally able to manifest actual flames with her pure will?  I mean I have no doubt magical fire can cause a physical burn.  but if they do use magical energy and not physical elements could Umi still manipulate physical water?  maybe yes because the magical/physical elements both have the same sort of properties that she could tap into???  I JUST LIKE ALL THE POSSIBLITIES

I'm in this state of total drunken  f e e l s  about my OTP this week, kinda came out of nowhere, so I decided to make their thread so that I can express myself.

thank you so much to Mils for starting it up and for letting me take care of it.  I run about a dozen or so fuckyeahs but FYR is my priority, I absolutely love doing it.  we've got a few forum members that've heard of us from FYR, and in turn we've made the Rayearth fandom on Tumblr bigger.

I've been kind of drunk on fandom feels the last couple days as the Hikaru/Umi/Fuu Weeks have been winding down, feeling sappy about how long a lot of us have known each other, and just really happy that even though there are other series that I love just as much as Rayearth, this is My Fandom, my community, and everyone in it is awesome.

I dunno, I think I'm overdue for unnecessary angst, as well as unnecessary crackfic.  why not roll them together?  except for the fact that I don't know if I could really handle the fallout stuff without it being melodramatic and stupid.  but I long to do major character death and I long to write Umi/Ferio (umio? oh wow).   

anyway this plot bunny has been percolating for a few months now.  it's not just the late hour that makes me post this terrible fckn idea.

I've messed with a few dates so far this year and now it's almost half over and I still haven't done the Knight weeks that I meant to do!  so it's gonna be in June!

there's an animanga card game called Crusade that features over 100 different series, including Yu Yu Hakusho and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.  this year for MKR's 20th anniversary, they're adding a set of Rayearth cards to the series!  these images were released of the Mashin, done by Crusade's illustrator, with character designer Atsuko Ishida tapped for the cards of the Knights. 

it's scheduled to come out on November 21st.  you can preorder it at AmiAmi.com for 3400Y (that's 30% off) which is around $32 USD.


there will also be a few cards of the Knights signed by their seiyuu randomly distributed in the packages!

so I haven?t touched WWD since spring of 2013 but hopefully I can get my shit motivated enough to work on it again soon since I?m 30k into it (ugh I?ve since improved in my writing but it?s not bad and I?m not about to rework 30k)

but in the meantime I read it over and I've been sitting on this scene all this time, and I think it's pretty damn cute, so even though I'm going to tweak it before officially publishing it to AO3 or wherever, I'm sharing (cross-posted to vfg because I can).  I almost never post to the fic board here.. maybe since I started a thread for this WIP it'll inspire me to ramble about it here - and talking about a project usually inspires me to work on it :p

Tea was in the usual place in the center of the gardens, very near to the spot where the Knights always arrived. Fuu followed the small stone path to the long white table, sitting with Ferio on one side and Ascot on her other. Umi helped Presea serve, skipping her own plate as she passed around the cake. Cephiran cake was strange, almost spongy compared to cake at home, but much sweeter, too sweet for Umi. She took a honeyed bun instead. Fuu glanced at Ferio out of the corner of her eye. He?d had three pieces of cake.

?Mm, Cephiran tea,? Umi sighed, inhaling deeply from the sturdy cup in her hands. ?I miss it when I?m not here.?

?You should bring some Earth tea,? Ascot suggested around a mouthful of bun. ?We were just talking about that the other day.?

?Oh, that?s a good idea,? Fuu said.

Hikaru was sipping here and there at her tea, mostly staring into the cup. ?This cake would be good with coffee, though, don?t you think??

Presea tipped her head. ?Coffee??

Hikaru propped her chin in her hands. Fuu motioned for her to take her elbows off the table, but she didn?t notice. ?It?s a dark, bitter drink with a lot of caffeine in it. More than most teas.?

?It?s bitter?? Ferio echoed, raising an eyebrow.

?Well, we sweeten it,? she said, making a stirring motion with her finger. ?Milk and sugar, sometimes honey. My mom likes it black, though.? She grinned. ?I have to use tons of sugar but I like it that way!?

?Hikaru, should you really mix that much caffeine and sugar?? Umi quipped.

?Why do you ask?? Hikaru said, looking puzzled.

?Hmm,? Presea nodded. ?Guru, you could use some of this coffee, don?t you think??

?Sure.? Clef sipped at his tea, no pastries on his plate. Actually, Fuu noted, it was his second cup of tea already.

?Y?know,? Caldina said, tapping her chin with a finger. ?This coffee sounds a lot like raum, that we have in Chizeta. We drink it straight, though.?

Presea sat up straighter. ?Oh, I remember. The princesses brought it the last time they visited. Did you get to try any, Hikaru??

Hikaru shook her head. ?No. I?d like to, though!?

?Hey, Guru,? Caldina said. ?D?you think we could import some? I think Presea?s right. You could use it some days. Really perks ya up. And the Council?s been talking about starting to, like, import and export with the other countries.?

?Mm.? Clef nodded, polishing off his second cup. Umi narrowed her eyes towards where he sat, but she didn?t speak.

The conversation drifted to Hikaru?s dog, then to keeping pets in the palace, then onto speculations about a zoo. Fuu listened to Ferio laughing next to her as she sipped her tea and watched Umi across from her, who kept glancing towards where Clef sat at the end of the table. They had both noticed his especially dark mood. Ascot seemed to have noticed Umi?s glances and asked her what animal she?d keep in the hypothetical palace zoo.

?Sorry??

?I said,? and Fuu could hear him trying his best to smile. ?If we had a zoo, what kind of animal would you want to keep in it??

?Oh, well,? Umi stammered, trying to bring her mind back to the conversation around her. ?I don?t know the names of too many Cephiran animals.? She laughed. ?I always liked the little owl. Er, the night-time bird with big eyes and the spirally tail.? She drew a spiral in the air with her index finger. ?We saw so many of them when we were first here. They?re so cute.?

Ascot seemed to relax slightly. He and Umi slipped into the conversation at the table, but Fuu wasn?t buying it. Clef was more troubled about something than usual (Clef was usually troubled about something, but he could at least carry on conversation) and Umi was more concerned about it than usual. Hopefully things would blow over by their next visit. Clef really did need to learn to relax.
