But I guess I am a bit more open to others' headcanons than I once was. I find it interesting to read what other people see in the story that I missed or didn't see that way.

Yes they eat egg sandwiches in Japan.  I had a friend who went on an exchange and her host mother would make egg sandwiches for breakfast sometimes.  It involved butter, lots of mayonase and the fryed egg.
