RYUUZAKI UMI
Oh Oh!!!!! Umi! She is my favorite! I love her head strong personality! She is my favorite! Is there anything else to say???
She's my favorite character in the series. I can't describe why.
BTW, when I get the Magic Knight Rayearth Sega Saturn title, I seriously hope I get the Umi disk. It would be very awesome.
What can I say about Umi? She is my favorite character. I adore her. I feel that I have more insight into her personallity than I do for any of the other three.
I do not feel that she is stuck up, as many anti-Umi fans paint her. I think she is easily frightened and puts on a harsher exterior so not to show weakness. She does care her friends. Like Suz, I also like the Fuu/Umi friendship that is so obvious in the manga. I wish it had been a bit more present in the anime.
I really cannot think of anything I actually dislike about her. She and Fuu are the most three dimentional characters in the story. Hikaru was kind of left out in that regard. I am amused that I share a number of her favorite things, but I will say, I am fond of sweets and sewing so we differ on that respect. But those are things that are fun to play on in fanfiction.
Love: (my point of view)
Ascot:
He is obviously infatuated with her. But I don't think he has taken any real time to understand her. She is more of an ideal to him. I have always seen him as being too weak to stand up to her. How is a relationship healthy if one person gets her way ALL the time. I can see him being the one who, not knowing truely knowing her, would offer her some sort of sweet. As we all know (those of us who know far too much for our own good.) That would be a big mark against him, as she is not much of fan of sweets.
Clef:
He is quiet, but can be loud when provoked. He is stubborn and able to stand his ground. I see he and Umi as clashing more often than not, but their personalities complement one another. I see him being that figure she would most often got to for advice, and in that way he would learn a great deal about her in the process.
Songs:
I will have to say that adore nearly every song done by Konami Yoshida. For a number of reasons, but I like Setsunakute a great deal. If you read/listen to the lyrics closely you can see that it could be shown as supporting my OTP ^.~ Why would she ever think that Ascot would view her as a child?
You know, none of us seemed to remember that the 3rd was Umi's birthday. Ah, oh well. I was busy with work and all for the better part of the day.
Yeah, I've nothing else to contribute to this thread, and I double posted. I am such a loser.

Haven't been near a computer today, so I never got to say happy birthday to my all time favorite character of the series. Clef is a close second, then Fuu.
Amusingly enough, this is also the anniversary of my fall way from the fandom, but that is vering off topic.
So in celebration of Miss Ryuzaki's bithday, I might go back and put some more work into finishing that prequel fic to Pillow Talk. but I might post something on the drabbles site before then.

Having a few thoughts about Umi today!
Mainly, her relationship with her parents, and how it's really good. In the Spring of Eterna, when the apparitions of her parents attack her and Emeraude asks them if their loved ones would ever want to cause them this much pain, Umi can give a definitive no, absolutely not. She has absolutely no doubt that they love her.
In some ways, Umi comes across as spoiled, but it's not an 'affluenza' spoiled. She's lived a life where she's never had to do without, yet it doesn't seem like there was a faulty degree of indulgence. Her parents seem like the kind that would actually take appropriate action to curb the behaviors if they found out she was bullying someone at school and admonish her not to think lesser of people of lower status than her. They've also allowed her to develop her own personality without too much insistence on following norms.
I also feel like Umi would have a low tolerance for bad parenting, just because, "Well, my parents did great with me, of all people, what's your excuse?"
I think Umi is more privileged than "spoiled". she's a little full of herself sometimes but she's not snooty; she's very generous and friendly.
