I know we like to chat and flail and laugh about a lot of AU ideas. a lot of them are kinda half-baked, and some are thought out carefully but never see the light of day as a proper fic, and some of course end up being fics or whatever. personally I get a lot of amusement from all the AUs so this thread is just to toss in the various proposed AUs so they can be enjoyed in theory.

there's a Fuupunzel one that Del and I tossed around that I don't think will ever be written but it's still fun to just think about. going off the Disney movie, Fuu has long golden hair and is kept in a tower by Alcyone who uses Fuu's magic powers to stay young and pert. Ferio is in Flynn's role, he tries to hide in Fuu's tower, she outwits him and gets him to take her to see the lanterns. the twist is that Ferio is the stolen/missing royal baby. the King and Queen have since died but their daughter Emeraude is still alive and she releases lanterns for her missing brother every year on his birthday.
aaand that's about all that's decided. I know we talked about some other things but tbh I don't remember them. I just love Fuu being wily and Ferio being a scamp and Emeraude!!!
I also must mention Del's current bunny, the modern (urban? ish?) Magic Teacher AU (http://springdelirium.tumblr.com/tagged/Magic-Teacher%21AU/chrono) where Clef teaches the girls and other MKR characters how to use their magic. THIS IS MY JAM.

I don't have a massive amount of them myself, but there's a few that I've kicked around in the past.
I have a spyAU with the Knights + Lantis in Hong Kong on some mission to recover something/ and or save Ferio after he went missing earlier. They infiltrate some party at an embassy to break in and retrieve some information they need, Fuu is running Opps in a van across the the street, Hikaru is dressed in a cators uniform and Lantis' took out someone's bodyguard and has taken thier place. Umi is there as a guest. At this point they run into Eagle, who is American in this AU and thusly in the CIA and also after the same information...
And basically all this spy mubojumbo is just an excuse for some really hot sex later on, before or after someone get's shot....Ehehe I actually did start this one in a very rough form. Maybe some day I'll dig it up out of the mothballs. I'd also like to mention I had plans to make Clef the knights and Lantis' version of 'M', hahaha with Presea as his secretary? IDEK.
The only other one that comes to mind is one I actually posted a few chapters of on my old ff.net account, it's retelling of Sleeping Beauty, but it's more just utter crack than an AU. It was "rated T for mild language, crude humor and general desecration of a fairy tale." It's told sort akin to stage directions for a play, with people mucking off back stage, the Narrator drooling over Lantis and Primera get's duct taped to a wall as some point. It really is just utter crack.

though I do intend on writing all the things. ALL THE THINGS. Well, some of them. Someday. So, you know, when I'm 90 I'll get around to the last.....

-Pride and prejudice au where Clef is Lizzy and Umi is Darcy. Also Fuu is Bingley and Ferio is Jane. Which Mils and I are writing (there are two paragraphs it's going to take a while...) Which has its own thread on this forum somewhere but Umi as Darcy has to be mentioned at every possible opportunity because it's awesome!
-Northanger Abbey au with Fuu and Ferio. I have no details beyond the knowledge in my heart that this should exist, somehow, somewhere, and if I have to do my duty and write it myself I shall do so!
-as I'm going through the literary ones - a measure for measure au (this is the terrible one which I refuse to admit my brain came up with and refuse to write) with added extra pickpocket crossdressing Umi. Doesn't follow the plot particularly closely, but, er, Zagato is Angelo and has gone mad because of Emeraude not being allowed to marry him then dying giving birth to the illigitimate child she wasn't meant to have and she was ruler of the not-really-elizabethan-london-but-more-that-than-anything place it's set (Emeraude is basically the Duke but I think she really is dead rather than just wandering off to spy on Zagato) (it's not a comedy at all it's completely a tragedy) (I hate this au) (I studied measure for measure at school and this thing has haunted me ever since) BUT BASICALLY ZAGATO IS ANGELO, Clef is Isabella, Ferio is Claudio, everything is terrible and the sex and violence are mostly switched so instead of making Clef sleep with him Zagato makes him an assassin to save Ferio's life. Also it's terrible. And Umi is a crossdressing pickpocket who accidentally finds Clef as he's leaving an assassination and so gets caught up in things and actually the whole Clef (who is an apothecary) (when he's not killing people) and Umi-the-pickpocket working together to overthrow Zagato bits may end up recycled into a completely different fic or book some day but the rest I refuse to write.
-Umi accidentally touches a thing which turns her into a siren for reasons and then she and Clef have to escape because all the Cephirans (apart from their friends but they aren't anywhere near the castle for reasons) want to kill her because sirens are EVIL! au. Lots of running about hiding, nearly dyign in a snowstorm, eventually proving she's a water spirit and that whole 'siren' thing isn't really true (after lots and lots of angsting about it!) and living in the water shrine under the sea while changing the political structure of Cephiro. .....Which probably isn't technically an au but the whole Umi is a siren! bit counts right? I was writing this one when I was 17. XD I still like the idea of living in the water shrine but I don't think I'm actually going to dust this off and finish it.....
-Caldina/LaFarga au based on the video to 'Wildest Dreams' by Taylor Swift which Mils just showed me for - reasons. (Caldina latched onto that song for the NEXT au but vintage filmstar Caldina? YES PLEASE)
-Police undercover!au: in which SOMEONE has to go undercover at a retreat for couples who are having issues to get close to Caldina who is a criminal! and in a relationship with LaFarga who is a policeman who doesn't KNOW she's a criminal, hence the fact they're, well, having relationship issues. And the main cast are basically all police and none of them want to tell him that he's dating a criminal so if they can just pursuade her to turn in her contacts and help them out because it's not like her own enterprise actually hurts people... BUT anyway. Ferio hatches the CUNNING AND CLEVER PLAN of sending Clef and Umi undercover, because they might not be a couple but they blasted well argue like one! So they're perfect even though neither of them can act at all. Plus they might actually do something about the tension between them which would be a bonus but mostly at least we'd get some peace in the breakroom for a while!
-BONUS TO THE ABOVE: Caldina and LaFarga meet when he's undercover. She doesn't actually know this. He doesn't realise she's actually running a smuggling ring which works alongside the one he's investigatiing. Somehow things manage to work out anyway? (Until the lying which ends them up in the above fic but hey)
-the EPIC AMNESIA AU from when I was 16/17 (I may have explained this somewhere else I don't remember but the epic apparently needs to be described again??) okay buckle up this one takes explaining. SO. Cephiro is a lot more medieval-fantasy-world and the girls were summoned from a medieval Japan to it and don't go back after they help restabilise the realm (it's not created by the pillar there's an actual monarchy and all of this was backstory so I don't have a CLUE what the crisis actually was, apart from the fact there was a war! UM). In the last battle, which happens on a plain next to a river for plot-convenience, they win, but Clef gets hit on the head and falls unconcious into the river some time before it's over, and gets washed downstream - into the bandit-ridden woods. They don't have enough people left to go look for him (and various people are too badly hurt to manage to go off on their own looking: Umi, Ferio, Hikaru etc) SO they don't find him.
Instead the bandits do! And they take him back to their fortress, and they can tell he's a mage becuase of his clothing but don't recognise him, so he gets a magic-blocking collar, but also because headwounds and magic really don't go well so it's actually a medical device at the same time. ANYWAY he wakes up and has absolutely no idea who he is, ends up becoming one of the bandits - turns out they're doing a better job of looking after and ruling the land down through and below the great forest than any of the rulers of Cephiro or the really appointed local lords have done. Because the local rulers are corrupt as anything. During several months! (without magic because he's slightly worried about who he was why he was fighting if he was someone who would have to not like these people etc etc also everytime they try to take the collar off his magic goes insane and nearly kills him/everyone because he has no idea how to control it because he doesn't REMEMBER.) He grows closer to the leader of the bandits (a guy I imaginatively called Raven, I have artwork somewhere in a box, I really liked this damn fic Clef with amnesia amused me) and then eventually Umi infiltrates the bandits! And they catch her and realise she's someone from the capital and she seems? to know Clef? (because she can't act at alllllll and she's really confused by his not recognising her) AND THEN they try to get his memory back and it actually DOES come back - and he pretends it hasn't but also accidentally says something when half-unconcious which is, slightly incriminating, and manages to somehow imply he was in an illicit relationship with Prince Ferio who hasn't come to find him and is therefore a TERRIBLE BOYFRIEND (particularly as everyone has heard the news that the Prince is about to marry Fuu) and therefore they let him stay amnesiac! as they think he is. Because POOR GUY also that bit where bringing back his memory nearly killed him.
Oooooooooooooooooonly he ends up in a relationship with the leader of the bandits officially at this point (which is slightly awkward as now he has to try to a) get Umi out of there b) escape himself because he's meant to be helping rebuild Cephiro and hey now he knows a hell of a lot more about corruption they need to do something about! and c) is lying to the guy about both of these things (though not the fact he likes him) d) is remembering he and Umi have a ~thing~ neither of them would talk about or do anything about e) so she's there and now knows he's now in a relationship with this guy and he can't actually talk to her because see: pretending to be amnesiac and not remember teh prisoner so he's meant to avoid her!
................Eventually they get away and back to the castle and sort everything out with Raven getting to be officially in charge of the areas he was looking after but I can't remember if it was going to end up Umi/Clef or if it was going to be an all three of them thing?
I wrote a LOT of this one but never bothered working out the middle of the plot, it's all on paper somewhere. THere's even a map. XD Basically I was just writing a fantasy book which happened to have amnesiac!Clef as teh main character and a lot of INTERESTING plot, er. Sorry Clef.
....................................The longest lasting legacy from this is that I borrowed Spark Piercasen, who is one of the bandits who is in Raven's trusted group of friends/lietenants who helps Clef, and threw him into Protecting You. .........Raven may or may not turn up in the sequels to Protecting You. There may or may not be a link between them but Raven and Clef never meet so it's not going to go down the same route XDD
-Fairytale au the first: Selece is the last dragon and also mad because he's the last dragon and steals girls to eat to fuel his magic - he steals Umi, and Clef, the centuries-old fae who Selece bound to help him, manages to break his bonds enough to help her kill Selece. Aka the Selece-isn't-Emeraude-except-he-is au. Which I'm not writing because I don't want to kill Selece? But the start of it exists in an old notebook somewhere.
-Fairytale au the second: hundreds of years ago evil mages tried to break the weather of the land of Cephiro because they were jealous. The three gods made a tool of their combined magic for a weather mage - HI CLEF - to use to fix the weather and stop it happening. And they made a nice shielded room for him to do it from! And then they were tired so they fell asleep for several centuries, not realising that they'd shielded Clef's room from all outside influences, including time, the need for food and drink, and the realisation he might want to leave the room at some point! So he's been controlling the weather for several centuries and no one realises it only the weather doesn't really like this and now there's a drought. Emeraude is the priestess-queen who gets a vision and summons three girls to go wake up the three gods to end the drought. And when Umi gets to Selece's cave he tells her to go get the mage upstairs to leave his room because oops he's been in a spell for mumblemumble years, Umi asks how if she can't get into the room? Selece suggests seducing him? Umi disapproves! And ends up irritating Clef into leaving the room and the three knights manage to use the tool TOGETHER to fix the weather. Also Umi yells at Selece until he fixes the whole Clef-dying-from-sudden-reintroduction-to-reality thing.
I am actually planning on writing that one but it's one of those I haven't touched for years. XD
-Ova au in which Clef and Ferio were in a relationship before everything happened but Ferio doesn't remember while he's under Emeraude's spell except brief moments in which he finds Clef then fails to kill him. FOR REASONS.

-Random mediterranean classical-inspired au thing where Umi was shipwrecked on an island about half a year ago and then Clef is shipwrecked on teh same island. And then they get off the island. Ihave no idea what the rest of this was meant to be, I was reading the black stallion and then wanted to shipwreck people but have political fallout in almost-ancient-Greece when they were found?
-Thing with late-medieval politics where Clef is an exiled heir to some duchy or other working as ambassador for Ferio in the negotiations for Fuu's hand. Then Clef's evil uncle dies and he can inherit his own title! Ferio may have to finish his own negotiations. Also Umi sneaks around in the dark a lot and challenges various people to duels. *shrugs*
-the noir/magical!prohibition/greek mythology/faerie au which I've also posted bits of. Ferio has amnesia, Emeraude has disappeared, and magic is illegal etc etc etc.

-High school au which was Clef/Umi while Clef is a new student teacher and Umi is a student. Stopped because this does NOT actually need to exist in the world despite what I thought about their ~forbidden love~ when I was about 14!
-Five Times Clef Became The Pillar And All The Ways That Went Badly Wrong.
-The thing where everyone is spies and it's mostly a modern!man from UNCLE au. With some Bond influence. Emeraude is M/Waverly, Clef is almost-Q.

Emeraude owns a salon! Because she likes her hair ridiculously long but wants to play with other hairstyles too so she goes into hairdressing. Clef and Zagato work with her and possibly Ferio, Ferio won't let Clef cut his rattail off, the three girls come in to have their hair dyed for charity and end up with saturday jobs so that Umi can tease Fuu about her flirting with Ferio, Caldina owns a manicures-etc thing attached to the side and Primera works with her (and when LaFarga walks in Caldina offers to do his hair despite everyone pointing ut she's not a hairdresser). Tarta and Tatra have a salon down the road but come to Presea's cafe next door a lot, and Lantis went off to Paris to train for a year and came back with french boyfriend Eagle in tow. Who brought his two relations - Ascot is Caldina's adopted brother who ends up helping Zazu out with his schoolwork in the evenings in the salon, then Ascot and Hikaru and Emeraude talk about dog grooming and the health benefits thereof, Innouva is Emeraude's borzoi, and no one knows quite how Clef's hair does what it does except Em who cuts it because he wont let anyone else do it and himself.
-Re the ever after au above it's a Fuu/Ferio fic! Forgot to point that out. Clef's Leonardo da vinci and Umi is her friend. We haven't worked Hikaru out yet.

-I FORGOT THE WRITING AU Cephiro's a publishing company run by Clef and Em and Zagato, Em runs off to ~conferences~ because she's terrified of actually being in a relationship with Zagato and ruining everything byt they can't keep ignoring the tension between them, Clef sends Zagato after her, in teh meantime all the knights were winners in their recent short-story competition and are writing novellas which will be published and Ferio turns up to help out, Clef's acting as editor for all three girls and Umi and he keep meeting in the middle of the night at a coffee shop on her University campus so she can talk plot out at him. Also he overdoes things! Involves Clef and Ferio sharing a bed and Clef watching Flash Gordon. Because of reasons?
-ALSO UNTIE THE KNOT which has the start on the internet but yes magic and university modern Japan au where Clef has basically magical RSI. And Ferio is obsessed with okonomiyaki. And they might all go to the university I went to in Japan and Clef is living in my room. XD (I do not appear in this fic. Just so you're sure of that.)

- Timeloop!AU where Ascot's stuck in a time loop until he figures out how to actually save Cephiro, and that's the real reason he grew up. Because he's been in it for years.
- Digimon!AU where Ascot's hat is actually a portal to the Digimon world. Because why not?
- Danganronpa!AU where everybody's trapped in the Castle by Mokona, forced to take part in the 'Magic Life of Mutual Killing,' meaning somebody has to murder someone else without the others figuring out whodunnit, and if they succeed, that person becomes pillar (but everybody else dies). Ascot dies in Chapter 4 because that is when my favorites always seem to die.
- Flash Forward!AU where the Magic Knights are summoned, but end up not arriving until 100 years in Cephiro's future. By that time, Zagato and Emeraude have gone totally corrupt and rule the now dystopian wasteland with an iron fist.
- My Asmi Medieval!AU where Umi is a knight who thinks she's going to save a Prince trapped in a tower guarded by fearsome beasts, only it turns out he's there by choice and the monsters are actually his friends, so yeah, he is seriously not happy that she killed some of them on her way up.
- Housemates!AU where Caldina's a traveling performer who owns her own home in a college town but rarely actually stays there, and Ascot's a college freshman trying to find a place near campus that'll let him keep all his pets.
- Dragon!Umi!AU where Umi is turned into a dragon during the first season and is saved from angry villagers by Ascot, who then takes her back to Zagato's castle to treat her injuries and hopes to persuade her into becoming one of his summons.
- Daycare!AU where Clef and Presea run a daycare center and don't get paid nearly enough to put up with child!everyone else.
- A very convoluted Zasmi Power Rangers!AU where a homeless Ascot and his giant dog find an unconscious Hikaru in a dumpster after a big megazord battle and take her to the hospital, then Umi pretty much combs the streets looking for him cause what if he knows Hikaru's a Power Ranger? And eventually he ends up staying at their HQ (with Zordon!Clef) all the time, and it's painfully obvious to everyone that he's got a huge crush on Umi, and everybody's just waiting for him to do something about it. But Ascot doesn't, cause it turns out he's got a boyfriend, he just hasn't been able to get in touch with him since getting kicked out of his house, but he finally does, and Zazu's all, "BABE I THOUGHT I LOST YOU!" and they get back together. No one saw it coming, especially not Umi, who's only just figuring out, 'Hey, maybe I do really like this guy,' but now he's got a boyfriend, and said boyfriend figures out she's a tad jealous and proceeds to rub it in her face a bit like the totally mature person he totally is. Only, ANOTHER PLOT TWIST!!! Zazu's actually working for the bad guys, and even though Zazu's all, "Hey, I don't care if you're doing stuff for the Power Rangers, I'm only working here cause it pays well," Ascot still breaks up with him when he finds out, but he doesn't tell any of the others why. Later, Hikaru finds Zazu's burnt hat in a destroyed factory, but Umi stops her from saying anything to Ascot about it, cause the factory belongs to the bad guys, and even if they eventually have to tell Ascot that Zazu's dead, they don't have to tell him he was working for the enemy. So a little time goes on, soon enough Umi and Ascot get together, but then everybody ends up in a situation where all hope is lost... Until Zazu shows up. And he's a cyborg now. So then once they're safe and sound again, they all have to figure out, "Well, okay, how are we gonna make this work?" It's just a hot mess of an AU and I'm really not sure if I should be proud or ashamed.
- Pirate!AU with Pirate Captain Caldina and First Mate Ascot, having adventures on the high seas and outwitting Caldina's nemesis, Captain Lafarga of the Royal Navy.
Stopping here for now. There's a lot more of them, but I need a breather.
Holy flying Mokona that's a lot of AU @_@
MY AU list was so tiny in comparison, but I did remember one I left out!
- I had an AU plot bunny that was vaguely based of that 80s fantasy movie LadyHawk, that I'd only seen part of but liked the concept. Where Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu are all ladies in waiting to the high queen (Emeraude) who is married but her and Zagato can not have any children, thus leaving Emeruade's younger brother as heir to the throne, but he went missing as a toddler and the Kingdom has about given up hope of ever finding him.
Alcyone plays the evil priestess (the evil bishop) who is originally lusting after Zagato but since she can't have him she focuses all her intentions on his brother, who is captain of the guard. Too bad for her he's already fallen in love with Hikaru. When she finds out about this she curses them both "To be together forever, but always apart" At night Lantis is wolf and Hikaru is human, and by day Lantis is human but Hikaru is...urgh something else, I could never decide on a good animal form for her. Suggestions? XD I thought about cat, but wtf would a medieval knight be wondering around with a cat for?
Ferio, meanwhile, has been living life on the streets as a thief and is facing prison time, he escapes, is almost caught and is saved by a rogue knight in black, who turns out to be Lantis, who is out for some revenge against Alcyone and decides to get Ferio to help him.
Clef is playing the good priest who is trying to help them lift the curse.
Fuu and Umi are both there, but not too sure as of how yet. I know I'm having Eagle be the person that replaces Lantis as captain of the guard, he's engaged to Umi, and they've been given the blessing of the Princess for this, but the rest of the court looks down on Umi for it, since he's not of noble blood. And Fuu somehow meets Ferio along the way....*whistles* I did actually start like the first chapter of this at one point...
- I also have an alternate version of season two where the Princess fails to send the knights home after the final battle and they end up separated, in different countries, all while they're about to kick of their invasions of Cephiro. So they have to put themselves back together, regain their will to fight and somehow make it back to Cephiro before the invaders get there. Deals a lot with the immediate aftermath of the final battle and the emotional trauma done to the knights because of it, plus they have to deal with this trauma, not at home, safe with their families, but in foreign, and possibly hostile lands. Some potential for some delicious angsty drama no? Do alternative versions count as AU? lol

This one has it's own AO3 entry and tumblr tag and everything.
- Animal Sanctuary!AU where Hikaru and Ascot run an animal sanctuary together, but find themselves having to suck up to rich people after their finance manager, Caldina, tells them bad news.
- How Much Can I Make Ascot's Life Suck!AU where he comes from an evil Summoner family and was the most talented of the bunch so said family was having him commit mass murder when he was too young to really question it, but then just as he starts to realize what's going on, the magic knights kill his whole family, and he only gets away with the help of Caldina, one of his family's servants. For years after that, it's all Caldina can do just to keep him from giving up on life entirely while they're on the run.
I think the main AU I have pondered is the Zombies AU.
Then I had my random bodyguard AU now turned original novel.

Also I have that one thing where high powered mages have to have people able to absorb or ~dampen~ their powers along with them when doing things like going on aeroplanes in which Clef and Umi do NOT join the mile high club! (Which is pretty much an au of my university au and Mils's bodyguard thing all in one er).

MIGHT need an au in which Hikaru and Fuu drag Umi to an environmental protest where they meet Ascot and Caldina has to bail them out when they're all arrested (it's probably Umi's fault they're arrested). And Clef runs an animal sanctuary or something but who knows whether this is a thing with griffins or not with griffins so who knows what he has that he's looking after. XD

I've got that MKR/Avatar: the Last Airbender fusion that has its own thread on here, where the MKR characters take the place of the AtLA characters and the AtLA story plays out based on how the MKR characters would react.
There's also the only-kinda-sorta AU "Innouva in the manga universe" fic that also has a thread of sorts on here and has two snippets posted on the Fan Flashworks community on Dreamwidth, and I have some ideas of my own about how I might write the Dragon!Umi!AU that Mokonalord mentioned.
I forgot the ice-skating competition espionage fic! (..........like, AU olypics with cold-war espionage and defecting except it's on a non-earth where Cephiro and Autozam et al are on one side of the wall and the girls are from the other. And their coach is REALLY Emeraude but she escaped Cephiro as a teen so Caldina is there with them pretending to be their coach and they're trying to FIND EVIDENCE OF STUFF while also completing. Because why not?

Remember seeing a suggestion on tumblr that works using the canon universe with just a few plot points/characteristics changed be called UAs (Universe Alterations) instead of AUs, in which case, my second one is an UA. OH God, I just remembered an AU I was going to do years ago that was modern AU with Umi's father in the hospital for surgery and she meets some guy outside on sitting on bench. She doesn't find out until later he's a patient, it's Eagle and fff the whole thing was like super emo because he's dying of cancer but they sort of become a thing and he spends most of the end of his life trying to like make her happy for the time he's there? IDK I never really got far with it.
There's also that evil Hunger Games!AU of mine, in which Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu are all tributes that become friends and form an alliance in the pre-Game period, but get split up at the beginning and don't meet again until they're the last three left. How that would end, all three living, all three dying, or only one living, is up for debate.
Also featuring:
- Eagle as a tribute who volunteered after finding out he had a terminal disease and wouldn't live another year anyway (Him and Fuu as the tributes from District 3 (http://thehungergames.wikia.com/wiki/District_3), perhaps?)
- Clef as Umi's mentor
- Ascot as a twelve year-old tribute with the horrible luck to get picked on his first Reaping, Caldina as his mentor determined to get him out alive, and Lafarga as the escort for that district
- Maseru and Kakeru demanding to volunteer as tribute in Hikaru's place, only, of course, they can't
Psychiatric Ward AU in which Ascot has Dissociative Identity Disorder/Multiple Personality Disorder, and all the other personalities he shares a body with (the beasties) are really nice/fun/harmless, but Ascot's the one that starts all sorts of shit every time he comes out and they think he might've killed his parents, so, yeah, not getting out of there any time soon.

Guys, I read almost every AU you have imagined, and all I can say is that I LOVE YOU ALL XD
So, as a consequence of finding out I can actually appreciate Clef/Umi when it's part of a threesome including Ascot, another strange AU seems to be taking shape...
Vaguely Merlin-esque AU: Umi gets lost in a magic forest that no one ever comes out of. Said magic forest is the result of an epic falling out between an esteemed wizard and his apprentice quite some time ago. Or so claims that talking tree. Course, that tree also told her not to trust the little boy with the beasts, and he turned out to be just fine. Really, what does a tree know, anyway?
As a result of a Let's Play I've been watching...
Phoenix Wright!AU with Umi as the newbie defense attorney and Fuu as rival experienced prosecuting attorney. Because Umi making overdramatic objections and Fuu with a ruffled cravat. Just think about it.
I love how half this thread is us remembering other random Rayearth AUs we've come up with. XDD
I don't know that I have replied to this thread at all.
-Umi is Clef's bodyguard because his family wants him dead for political reasons.
-Umi finds a baby dragon while studying abroad in England. She takes it to cattery owner Clef to get help looking after it.
-Umi is a princess of a random kingdom, and her friend Caldina talks her into randomly seducing someone at a masquerade ball.
My Fair Lady AU! Umi is an untrained mage who does street magic for an extra income. Clef is a bitter old mage who says he can train her to be a royal magician in six months as a bet with Ferio?
Lots of arguing and exploding shit. Would be glorious.
I had a... modern-ish? urban fantasy? Not quite sure how to categorize it... AU appear pretty close to fully formed in my head the other day. It has some definite influences from Del's Anarchistic AU, but is very much its own beast.
Other AUs that I either never got around to mentioning or that have developed since my last post:
- A historical AU, where Hikaru has spent the last 8 or 10 years pretending to be a boy. This one spun out of a couple of full-front, head-and-shoulders shots of Hikaru in Episode 29 that made her look like a boy and caused me to want to write a fic where she disguised herself as a boy.
- The Zagato-tells-the-girls-the-truth AU, where the truth about the Magic Knights' duty comes out during the fight with Zagato, the girls say "Hell no!" to the idea and talk Emeraude into changing things. MKR 2 still happens because the massive realignment Emeraude made in a single burst gave the external appearance of her having died. The girls were sent home during that massive burst and their return was caused by the combination of them wanting to make sure that things were working out okay and Emeraude wishing that she could talk to them again.
Also, Zagato's massive sense of guilt and Emeraude's initial refusal to even consider letting him face any sort of punishment for his actions accidentally leads to BDSM.
- The Better Plan AU, where instead of setting himself up as the villain, Zagato tells the public that Emeraude has secluded herself to pray and meditate on the current disturbances and gets Clef on board with the idea of telling the Magic Knights the truth about their duty as soon as they arrive. The girls end up stuck in Cephiro for several years while helping to work out the problems of reforming the Pillar system. This one was the result of Down pointing out how much of a better plan (hence the name) that would have been on the chat.
- Innouva-as-the-S2-villain. The idea originated with MokonaLord, but I have my own ideas for it. It would also end up incorporating a long-standing anime "What If" idea of mine: What would have happened if Nova hadn't stolen Hikaru from the NSX at the end of Episode 29?
- The S2 Shadow Trio AU. During the anime rewatch last year, VKiera mentioned the idea of Umi and Fuu also having shadows like Nova. The idea latched onto me and refused to let go. It would also probably incorporate the idea Down mentioned during the rewatch of Sierra actually being Presea and pretending to be her own twin is her method of dealing with the trauma of having been buried alive.
Also, the AU I mentioned in the post above this has since been dubbed the magictech-and-political-intrigue AU.

I've always liked the idea of the season 2 big bads being Nova plus a shadow of Umi and Fuu as well, and no Debonair. And if they had dropped the psycho lesbian trope they smothered Nova with. I'm not sure what they'd be up to without Deboniar around, so she might be necessary. It solves the issue for me of season two being a bit too Hikaru-centric for my tastes as well.
My own alternate season 2 has been nudging at me recently, where Emeraude dies and the spell to send the Knights home fails. Hikaru is left in Cephrio to watch it crumble and spends a rather large part of it having a BSOD moment. Umi somehow ended up in Autozam with a bunch of Autozam's equivalent of child ravengers/scavengers. And I've decided Fuu is going to have to find her way back to Cephrio by country hopping and infiltrating into the royal court of either Farhen or Chizeta.
Oh and Autozam, while also prepping to invade Cephiro is also close to going to war with it's primary trade partner that is attempting to start a coup and reinstate the royal family there again. I'm terrible at writing politics though...
Hahah, oh man, I really will have to plan this one better than I did Ice and Snow or I'll never finish it. But it's on back burner for now anyways.

Yeah, the S2 Shadow Trio AU, as I envision it, very explicitly does
not include Debonair. I'm not entirely sure what they'd be up to without her, either, but I'm sort of leaning towards them not really being solid enough to do much of anything before the girls return to Cephiro.
Regarding your alternate Season 2, I really love the idea of Fuu infiltrating the Chizetan royal court. Fuu and Tatra are just so similarly scary smart, ruthless, and manipulative, I think it would be really interesting to see the two of them working both with and against each other, maybe even at the same time.
And Hikaru is stuck in Cephiro? Oh, man, that's going to suck, not just for her, but for Clef, Presea, Ferio, Lafarga, and even Lantis, once they find out about her still being there. I mean, I'm sure that a large part of the reason that both the girls and the Cephirans handled the girls' return so well was that they'd had time to work through their feelings about things on their own.
Also, it's worth mentioning that the Innouva-as-the-S2-villain fic is going to be using the manga's concept of Pillar selection.
