To all Clef/Umi fans

I know many people here ship Umi/Clef, their relationship is frying my brain at the mo.

What do you think they see in each other? Why did Clef love Umi and also vice versa?

I also wonder why Clef did not fall for Presea, he would have known her for a long time.

When do you tthink the love between Umi and Clef started to develop? Had they started feeling for each other already in season 2?
To love another person is to see the face of God.

Greater love got no man than he, who lay down his life for his friends.

I'll leave the explaining to those who ship it.  But I do wanna chime in, as someone who really doesn't at all.  I used to hate it and not understand any of it.  Actually, I still think canon (anime and manga) does nothing to show why they work together and justifying the ship is up to analyzing the characters.  I mean, there's moments in canon where it shows That They Have Feelings For Each Other, but I've never seen anything that justifies Why They Work.
BUT the folks here (Umi/Clef shippers have always had a majority here!) have shown me how they work, and I can see it, and *gasp* I even wrote a short little ficlet about them.  So yes, you're in the right place to ask about this pairing!

I... thought the whole Presea-and/or-Sierra-are-secretly-in-love-with-Clef was random and unnecessary, personally.  Maybe if the Sierra character wasn't involved it wouldn't seem so much like a soap opera, but it really seemed like they whipped it up out of nowhere to make the MKR2 anime "more dramatic".

*is summoned to the internets by this post!* I - ER, consider this a placeholder (unless anyone can find anywhere I have actually done the full essay before? I can't remember if I have, but I flail about so many bits so often there HAS to be some version of Why I Think They Work In The Manga, Finding The Anime Later Made An Amusing Bonus But I Ship From The Manga No Really Yes I Mean It This Is Why - essay, somewhere? XDD;;) (More than a decade of OTP and getting the literary analysis in behind it to explain my reaction to them, I HAVE to have the full essay somewhere outside my head, right?)

(I will cry at the first person who goes YES IT'S CALLED YOUR RIDICULOUSLY LONG FIC GO FINISH IT. Really. I will.)

I would type tonight but woooooooooooooork I am so tired. Too tired for coherence. But essentially character traits and values and the connection it forges between them during the course of the narrative~ and I shall explain this statement when I am not asleep on my feet! :D

Someone better leave a manifesto here in celebration of Umi/Clef Week next week, I'm just saying...

You seem to have been under the impression that Down and I were going to do anything productive with our shipping whilst we were actually in the same country/city/village/house/room/bed giggling like idiots all night, over nothing.

I suppose, since we are still waiting on the Down!essay on this topic, I will chime in with my feelings on the pairing.

I feel like Umi and Clef balance one another out. There are moments when they are quietly happy together, where words are far and few between, but I like toying with the antagonistic side of things. Both are willing to call out the other on their stubbornness and attitude, usually with explosive results, because both are quick to anger.

The way I write them, there is at least one argument in the story. Occasionally ending in something be destroyed with magic. It can be the littlest of things to set off the fight, but they tend to end the same way. Loud, violent arguments between these two often ends in loud, angry sex.

Really, I think this pairing boils down to the antagonism and snark.  I don?t think Umi can stand the idea of a cute fluffy relationship like her parents have. She?s rather be butting heads with someone she adores, than constantly fawning over them.

I did START it, you saw the evidence! I just didn't bring it to bed get it out of outline stage yet, love. XD IT WILL BE DONE. After, say, chapter 24. And the rest of PY, possibly. Not like that doesn't count as Clef/Umi essay anyway...
