I've passed 18,000!  And even though some days are like pulling teeth, the story is progressing swiftly and I really think I'm going to actually finish the story this year!

I'm currently on 35,000 (with maybe another thousand words longhand) which is DOABLE but WHY DID I LET MYSELF DRAG SO MUCH this november has been rubbish for concentration ARGH WORK etc etc *whinge grumble rant COMPOSE SELF ONCE HAS EXPRESSED COMPLETELY LEGITIMATE FEELINGS*

Only I have another... say 600 words, which is not MUCH but EVERY LITTLE HELPS AT THIS STAGE which is TECHNICALLY not a part of Burden, it's part of the third book - it's the first scene of the third book, in fact. It takes place immediately after the last scene of Burden. And I have written it BECAUSE I am writing Burden and it turned out there was a thing about one of my characters I didn't know which I needed to write THAT to get the hang of, (because apparently Zafira is in a quietly not-announced-but-not-precisely-hidden relationship with the master Healer, Miura, and she - Miura, that is - does not actually really appear in Burden for reasons of setting but I needed to write them to see how they interact? *starts blithfully shipping her own characters heh*) so it's NECESSARY for Burden that it EXISTS for me but it's not IN BURDEN and I don't know whether to let myself count it!

I mean, I haven't been counting anything written on Protecting You, but that's mainly because it's going BACKWARDS due to editing and I don't want to be CUTTING 4000 words from my nano total. XDD BUT if I start counting All Fall Down, I am worried that I'm going to start just... writing bits of that because I am at TRICKY DECISION MAKING POINTS and things are getting TANGLED AND HARD and this is the point where I really need the drive of nano to shove me on THROUGH Burden without letting the pressure off?

AT THE SAME TIME THOSE WORDS WERE IMPORTANT AND I'M SO BEHIND

ANYWAY aiming to break 40k AND post PY chapter by the end of the day (just don't... hold me to those...) and MAYBE THEN I WILL FEEL BETTER.

(why did my parents choose this week to bugger off to Oxford for a few days I WILL LOSE TIME COOKING AND GETTING MYSELF UP AND TO WORK AND BACK AND AAAAAARGH COULDN'T THEY HAVE GONE NEXT WEEK? DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD:)

"How could you do that?" Umi demanded, and she could feel the hot damp of the tears running down her cheeks. "You idiot, Clef!"

"...In my defence, the plan was working really well until the ceiling fell on us." Clef pointed out, his voice stratchy as he pushed himself up onto one elbow, and Umi made a noise which resembled a kettle boiling.

*snickers* I WILL NEVER GET TIRED OF KETTLE ANALOGIES and also apparently dropping things on Clef. SORRY CLEF.

and no one was around so I rambled at tumblr about them at length, whoops.

(when I say I write Clef an awful lot like myself and that he has, uh, tunnel vision I-am-focused-on-this-problem-so-hard-I-cannot-take-a-step-back-and-reevaluate issues with some things? YEP. WHOOPS. Dear self: sense-check the plot-shape you are trying to write against the shape of the plot in the back of your head. If you are cackling more about betrayals and things falling on people's heads than you are about sneaky murderers, then PROBABLY the focus of your plot should not be on the murderer!)

(the CHARACTERS don't need to be let in on this right from the beginning - though to be fair their inability to be focused on the murder was the thing which has been FRUSTRATING ME - but! I do. AND NOW THE SHAPING MAKES MORE SENSE. Which is good because the shape of PY is SO NAFF, none of the bits of resolution match. *siiiiiiiiiiiiigh* BUT in Burden the first emotional turning point comes at the moment when the danger steps up because the external factors start playing with a heavier hand, and the kick at the end is down to the fall of the political dominos, it's like it makes sense! At least. To me. XDD)

(...Though this means I really really need to start getting my head about the conflict in All Fall Down, heh. ...I really need to work out if I can actually get some more of what Fuu and Hikaru are up to in that into it, because BIG THINGS and it's really rather rubbish that I'm putting three BOOKS together about this ridiculous thing for Clef and Umi, and mostly everyone else is off doing their own thing without my talking about it at all. D: But for reasons of arcing and development they NEED to be separated from Umi for most of them! Geh.) (But they have BIG THINGS to do and I don't want to just throw a few sidefics up and leave it at that, I want it REFLECTED IN THE TEXT...)

(..............also Fuu's part in this 'verse makes me want to hug her but I'm writing Clemi and it's all in the background bah. Maybe I should do a novella version of it from her point of view afterwards..................... oooooooooooooookay actually, uh, that could be.... THAT COULD BE FUN?) (Hikaru's story is less arched because she made her choices ages ago and is fine with them. Umi is makes hers - then has to realise she's made them and live with them, heh. Fuu thinks she has chosen, but needs to reevaluate, and that is why she and Umi are nooooooooot going to be seeing eye-to-eye through this. *hugs them both*)
