Need help for Umi shrine...

My Umi shrine, SELTZER, is coming along slowly (but coming along nonetheless!).  I have a problem with one section, though.


The Love/whatnot section.  See, I love Umi, but I don't honestly give a rat's rear about her love life, especially in the series.  I like shipping her with Goh from Pr?tear, but that doesn't really belong on the shrine.

I know there's plenty of people who can write me some bits and bobs about the Clef/Umi pairing that I can use.  PLEASE DO.  I might even use quotes, so let me know where/if you want your name!link to point to.  Support for Ascot/Umi is also very much appreciated.  I don't have anything to say about either, to be honest. XD

Personal reasons, canon notes, characterization outside of explicit canon (that is: why is it in character, if at all?) and whatever else.


Reasons why NOT aren't necessary, so Clemi-shippers needn't pound on Asmi, and vice-versa.  FYI. >;D

Hm... But I'm not sure of exactly what your looking for. You mean like in the manga where Clef and Umi are together when Umi can't sleep the night she goes back to Cephiro the second time. Like quotes from that?

See, that scene to me has NO ROMANTIC CONNOTATION at all.  So just posting it would be useless; everyone's read it, anyway.  It doesn't prove anything.

I mean reasons WHY Umi and Clef would work together.  WHY Umi and Ascot would work together.  WHY Umi and Clef would make a terrible couple.  WHY Umi and Ascot are totally incompatable.

Any of those things, whatever you can support with characterization from the anime and manga.

No romantic connotation...    Meh.   To each his own.   I happen to like odd pairings.  I can see how such a pairing is functional, and I will attempt to get back to you on that at some point. But my damned JAck/Elizabeth kick is taking over my brain.   *cries*

If MK_Rayearth were more active, I would suggest posting this there and in the FFN forums.   A wider imput.

After I thought about it, I think why Umi and Clef would work together best because of their personalities. I mean they both have bad tempers yet are caring at the same time. Ascot is too shy and mild tempered, so in my mind I think Ascot would eventually blow a top while dealing with Umi. Clef and Umi are very similar, and to tell you the truth even though most people think opposites attract, I seriously don't think they always do.

Brief thought - the first reason I thought they could work is because of the absolute trust that Umi has for Clef - in the beginning of the manga, she may tease him and argue with him... but she tells Hikaru she's sure he'll be alright when they leave him, and I don't think she's lying. After the deal with Ascot, she basically says 'meh, we'll talk to Clef - the midget will fix it for us.' about finding Ascot and his friends somewhere to live. ^^;;; It comes through in various ways, and even the ending of Rayearth one doesn't seem to change that. When she feels she has to apologise, it's him she turns to - she's obviously been thinking of him in the gap between series, or she would have gone to someone else to apologise... it would have made more sense to go to Ferio for absolvement, now they know that he was Emeraude's brother, but her trust in Clef's opinion is such that it's enough to hear it from him alone.

...I also think Clef would be better for her than Ascot because of their personality types, beyond my belief that Ascot has fallen in love with an image of Umi rather than the actual person (in the manga, anyway. Different kettle of fish in the anime...) Ascot is shy, withdrawn - I can see him backing down and letting Umi have her own way all the time, on everything, and not giving her the support she needs in the right way, never really telling her when she's doing something wrong. With Clef, they are NOT afraid to correct each other. (>.<) A little too much the other way, in fact - they're both strong personalities, and that would let them have a more 'equal' relationship, which would probably be more mutually benificial mentally and all that jazz. (besides... the arguing shows they're emotionally involved with each other, and the quieter moments - the 'thank you' etc - show they do care about each other.)

Since the majority of the forums will more than likely contribute Clef/Umi bits, I'll try to see what I can come up with as far as Ascot/Umi. ^^ I'm a fan of both pairings. -shrug- Someone needs to stick up for poor Ascot.

I'm with you on the 'Umi's romance life' bit, Suza. xD I love Umi liekwhoa, but as far as her love life goes, I would much rather go with Fuurio than choose any specific pairing for Umi. Tis the reason why I like/accept both pairings.
