Alright, so we know Clef had many pupils in which to teach/train in magic but how are these pupil's selected? Ability of course but is there something that notifies Clef or some other magistrate in Cephiro of these high level will 'users'? Also, Im suddenly very interested in Alcyone's past in relation to her training with Clef. Anyone has insights or have you guys ever thought of this?
Welcome to the Eagle Vision Show!

I always figured that there would be at least one magic user in each village, and that the kids would all be taught a bit by whoever was around and avaliable - either through school or otherwise - because if not there could well be Accidents. ^^;;; (Not that there aren't anyway, in my head...) If a pupil had some sort of aptitude, the teacher should notice it and send them to someone with more power and knowledge, and they would be referred on and on through a network of masters and their (former) apprentices and friends etc up the power and knowledge tree until they reached a high enough level, hopefully.

...basically, a network of patronage. Heh. Didn't know my medievalism was THAT obvious. XD

Also, as we see Clef teaching a young Emeraude and a Lantis who is at least late teens, and it's implied that Alcione was his apprentice until she declared herself to be fighting for Zagato, I don't think you ever STOP being the apprentice of your teacher - they may stop giving you formal lessons as such, (the lessons may become fewer and fewer) depending on what your  level seems to need, but there's always a bond there that you can call on for help and advise, which develops (hopefully) into one between friends, more equal. Presumably if you wanted to, you could declare you were breaking the tie with your master, particularly once you come of age, but I don't think that's normal?

Like Lantis in Rayearth II - especially in the anime - he and Clef are still close, and he also still defers to Clef like a pupil would - though Clef treats him more like a friend than Lantis does in return, showing the relationship as it begins to change (or Lantis wanting to hold onto something solid and unchanging of his life... *stopping before I go into a character dissection*)

...O_o; Apparently I've thought about it more than I thought I had? XD heh.

About Alcione in particular... I've always had the feeling that she hadn't really been his pupil for long, and not since childhood - her earlier teaches not willing/able to refer her on, I wonder? Because she didn't have the same level of respect and attatchment to him, and her level of power seems fairly small given that she's fighting for the man she loves...

...*beats off the plot bunnies* UM.

XD But then, my Clef was once adult shaped and is not a virgin. So each to their own. XD 's more fun that way...

((it's odd to see someone ask about this given the plot bunny I'm currently scribbling down for the challenge comm. XDD))
