Dragon's Den (Not sure about the title, but whatever)

I don't know if i should be encouraged or slapped, but already--even before anything has actually happened in Sanctuary--I have a fic that wants to be a follow on, and explore a completely different side of the pregnant!Umi plot that I seem to enjoy so much.

Not only does that law on Clef actually serve a purpose, he admits it... after the fact!

*sigh*  I'm not sure if I love this or hate it. 

I rather like the idea of doing a study from Clef's POV of trying to get an amendment or something added to the law that make his relationship not illegal, while at the same time fretting over the danger to Umi--because apparently carrying the child of a master mage can be deadly--and trying to keep her pregnancy a secret from everyone--not sure how well they manage this, as Fuu learns of it pretty early on.

Excerpt (or two) of what I've scribbled today:

He'd known before she did. That was likely because he was the one looking for the signs from day one, and desperately praying to Cephiro that he was wrong. One stupid mistake and he was left watchign her like a hawk while pretending their solution was perfectly effective. Perhaps that's why he'd noticed the look on Umi's face when she turned down a favourite dish at Fuu's birthday party. Then there was the moment a few weeks later when she was frustrated with her maths work and threw her calculator down in disgust, only to have it spark violently and burst into flame. He couldn't think of another reason why she suddenly had unruly electrical magic amidst her well trained water repertoire, but he still didn?t bring up the possibility. It was easier to pretend to himself a little while longer, that way.

When she finally told him she knew, he thought he?d pretend to be as surprised as she, but that isn?t what happened.

Where would the fun in that be?  It's more fun for him to realise his mistake after it is too late, so then he ends up freaking out over it.

Aren't they more or less teh same thing?  I'm sure broody Umi is about as dangerous as a broody dragon, honestly, if not more so.  I would expect her temper flaring a bit more than usual for a while, with some interesting outcomes, given I am seeing the baby as a sort of lightening rod in more than one way.

So...  rereading manga today, remembering how much Umi feels like she owes he parents for everything they have done raising her (definitely not a snob) and realising that alone would make her feel horrible when this happens because she will likely feel she hasn't done anything to pay them back.  Sort of liking the idea she is the one who makes herself feel horrible about it and doesn't need someone else to do that for her.

Yeah, I'm apparently working on this and Sanc instead of my NaNo story at the mo....   Oh well.

Still not fully sure what roles everyone else will play and how far the knowledge will spread.   In my old fics on this subject, nearly all the close friends they have in Cephiro eventually know, but perhaps it should be kept closer to the vest.  Some of the more observant might figure it out, but no say anything until later? 

Now, I'm just rambling.   I need to leave or I'm going to be late to work this morning.  6.30 is too early to be awake, dressed, and ready to go.  BAH!

As I've said, this is my nano project.  I'm having fun with it at the moment, even if it is a major pain in the arse. I've currently got it mostly outlined in Scrivner, though not all parts have any text just yet.

Well, your comments on FFN made me laugh, because there was no changing the plot of this fic now.  It's taken a life of its own, and bends too easily to suggestions.  It's pretty much become baby fic crack wrapped in politics and sarcasm, as I was telling Down yesterday. I honestly think one of the worst ideas they have in the story is Umi going with Clef to Chizeta.  Pretty sure that works out badly when it comes to keeping their little secret....for a number of reasons.... Then Tarta trying to steal Umi makes it silly all over again.

This is the old pinboard anyway.  There are far more scenes now.  And that just keeps growing, as I scribble more bits and pieces here and there.

Someone need to either give me more random ideas about how to incorporate Clef attempting to actually get work done in this fic, or more crack prompts.

So far, I think I may have managed to fix a plot hole that was bugging me, accidently summon Fyuula into Clef's study, and possibly hook Ascot up with Zazu.  My work here is done  (well, until I have to type up this crack)



ETA:  Nevermind, I guess.  I swear this is just degenerating in porn.  Someone save me?  And Ferio, for that matter.  There are so many thing Ferio DOESN'T want to know in this fic.

Now, I am sat here wondering how long Clef would stay on his first trip back to Tokyo with Umi. (In this universe, it's not his first time on Earth, if that helps.)  I'm honestly half debating on him staying the full five days or so until the girls go back to Cephiro, so not to upset Umi's schedule too badly, as he's worried about her focussing on her lessons.

Anyone else willing to throw some thoughts in on this?   And possibly ideas as to things that might happen if he did stay. 


(I've still got 25k words to write over the next 5 days, people!!)
