modern AU demi Clef as a quiet hipster in one of those apartments up on the seventh floor, with almost no furnishings but what's there is repurposed/thrifted/secondhand, and he has more books than furniture but he doesn't have bookshelves so they're stacked in towers in his bedroom around his old brass bed

he's often sleep-deprived because he's up fretting about this and that and he drinks too much caffeine at the local tiny coffee shop and Clef in hipster scaaarrrves

He likes TEACHING and children I DO NOT UNDERSTAND THESE THINGS XPPPPPP and is in general probably not a grey-ace girl who sits in meetings at work and absently officially announces she's marrying a woman or whatever on the second day her new manager is present THERE ARE SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCES HERE OKAY XDD

honestly I'm surprised Clef doesn't smoke some kind of Cephiran equivalent, he always seems stressed  /pets

sometimes I think about in s1 how a whole bunch of Clef's best and brightest and most-loved students all went against his teachings and best wishes, and up and died in horrible ways, and he loves his students so much they're his everything and I just

But! This just occurred to me! He still has Ferio and Lantis! Ferio, as much of a rebel as he is, isn't going to turn his on the man who RAISED both him and Emeraude, he's not ever going to make Clef relive the pain of seeing one of his surrogate children die, especially not by his own hand.

Is that any consolation Suz?

did he canonically raise Ferio??  I know that's popular fanon but I can't remember if the manga mentioned it???

regardless gosh yes Lantis is still kicking.  and I like to think that after things settle down he takes the Knights under his wing for more formal training.  godDD can you imagine how proud he'd be of them?  those girls are stronger than almost all of his students, and how he'd be so so proud of how how amazing they are with their magic once they get proper training to supplement their natural gifting

The Knights are all the students that he never wanted and has anyway and UGH FEELINGS ABOUT CLEF AND HIS MIXED-EMOTIONS ABOUT THE KNIGHTS and aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah

OMG THAT'S JUST - THE FEELS THE FEEEEELLLLSSS~~~

Man, I honestly love the relationship between Clef and Lantis. We have the briefest flashbacks, but where they actually discuss the pillar system in a pretty defying way? Because they both see where the situation between Zagato and Emeraude is going, and Clef feels comfortable enough with Lantis to approach the subject? And they actually banter a bit aaaaah gosh, and how Lantis must have felt guilty after coming back, he spent his entire stay in Cephiro running from the castle and his feelings and I do think part of it was from being absolutely ashamed to face Clef and tell his master what he came back to do, even if Clef would probably have given him his support in a way, considering he himself wasn't planning to hide anything about the pillar anymore. And oh man, it's just so heartbreaking to have had that flashback when you parallel that to Clef talking to Presea about the system and his own role, because that?s the sort of thing he once discussed with a beloved student who he knew went away because he suffered a lot with knowing Cephiro?s fate, and couldn?t ultimately BE THERE because he couldn?t take a position like Clef had to (to actually teach the knights the magic they needed to kill his princess). And man what a mess, I love them.

And I am currently flailing too much at Suz's comment about Clef taking the knights under his wing to do anything but incoherent noises.
