Counting down to NaNo...

12 days until Nanowrimo starts.  How ready are you?

Personally, I was near panicking for the first week of October.  I had no clue what was going to happen in the entire middle of my story, my world-building was barely started, and I didn't really know a couple characters in my main cast.  I sat down to do some notecards with scenes on them and ended up being able to work out the plot, more or less.  My world-building is still in shambles but I only half-care because like two people are ever gonna read this.  And I worked out one character only to lose my grasp on another.  Whoops.

But anyway, then I was pretty much set and ready to start.  But it wasn't even the tenth yet.  So I posted in the inanity of the NaNo forums to keep myself occupied.  BUT THEN our benevolent dictator Mils resurrected these forums.  So while I've had plenty to amuse myself until November, uhmm, I don't want to put down MKR again and have to pick up my original story.  Dammit!

I honestly want to do NaNo, but I have no idea what to do ._.;

I have 60,000 words of this aodshgiodfh novel and I STILL HAVE NOT TIED UP ALL THE PLOT SO I KNOW WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN

this is why I am nanoing it for the second year going

I mean, I know the endgame, and I know several of the major points that get hit on the way! I know three cliffhanger chapter endings and I have most of the setup done.

But I haven't actually sat down and replanned it to detail out the messy morass of the middle

which I NEED TO DO

Also, I may need to change tone somewhat, because the tone of Protecting You's ending is slightly drifting from where I thought it would be on one front.

But I can't tell for certain because I HAVE NOT FINISHED IT YET

..............*flails about in circles going AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH HOW IS IT OCTOBER ALREADY*

I still don't really understand NaNo, could someone explain?

The basic idea is that you write a 50,000 word story within the month of November, starting at 12:00AM November 1st and stop at 11:59PM November 30th.  The main rule is that any text within that 50k must have been written during November.

Now, there's other rules, but one of the best things about NaNo is that the rules are meant to be bent, if not totally broken.  In fact, they almost encourage this.  I usually write the first 100 words or so of my story in September or early October and just throw it in my wordcount.

You don't have to sign up on the website to participate because the whole idea is that it's "art for art's sake" (although we're using the word "art" here very loosely, based on the mess that most people end up writing).  There's a lot of people in the community that won't shut up about publishing, which is not what NaNo is about.  It's about bragging rights.  It's about finally finishing a project.  It's about being creative without worrying about getting everything right.

But mostly it's about bragging rights.

Also, if you like writing but can never seem to motivate yourself to do it, NaNo can be a fun way to kick yourself in the pants. There's a whole community of people doing the same thing, so it's easier, I find.

Also also, you can totally write fanfic if you want! There aren't rules as to what your story has to be about. I almost wrote an Animorphs fic last year.

If I did not already have a mountain full of stuff to do, this would be great!
Welcome to the Eagle Vision Show!

I've decided that I have to get all my fandom feels out by Sunday the 28th of October.  Starting the 29th, I have to dive back into my original story.  Because I was all into my characters and stuff and then MKR came back along and, well, I don't give a hang about them anymore.  I can't write if I don't love who I'm writing.  And it will make for a miserable Nanowrimo.  So after the 28th, I'll be on the forum occasionally but not in the chats (those are definitely off-limits in November anyway, I already have too many sources of procrastination IRL).

Rayearth, Animorphs and Avatar will be trying to kill my story this November.  Like, we can talk sometimes, fandom, but we can't hang out like we usually do.  You are too distracting.  I have to focus!

You know Fandom is going to be sitting there looking smexy with a bottle of wine in hand going "It wont hurt..."
Welcome to the Eagle Vision Show!

Yes that is the problem.

Fandom is an alluring temptress.

No worries.  Double post rule has been modified.  Because small forum?

Love it!

Debating on what I am going to work on now....  Original fic or fan fic....  or both?

SEAN BEAN I LOVE YOU WHY DO YOU ALWAYS DIE

DID YOU USE UP YOUR ABILITY TO SURVIVE WHILE YOU WERE PLAYING SHARPE?

...wonder if they'll ever do another Sharpe *WANTS*

........the local kick-off is tomorrow. HOW. *flails hands* I NEED TO WORK OUT THE DETAIL OF MY MURDER MYSTERY! I've JUST ABOUT got the shape of the politics in place - I've got the LOCAL stuff mostly down, it's the interactions between that and the international meltdown-in-progress which I need to tie up, but, AAAAAARGH.

.........At least I know my characters pretty well. XD *pats Clef on head and runs away before he bites*

Sod it, I might just add the end of PY into my wordcount and get that done roughly first. >.<

Think I am going to try my hand at the original fic.  I still need to toy with plot points since one of the hand wavy things in the finale needs to be changed to something more substantial.

Guess I can work out those details while I write.
