High Priest or High Priestess?

At some point, I was wondering, if a Pillar should not fall in love, why did they not choose a woman to assist Emeraude? I mean, have a Priestess instead?

I know there would be other men around, but won't it lessen the risk of tragedy occurring?

To love another person is to see the face of God.

Greater love got no man than he, who lay down his life for his friends.

Oh man but TRAGIC LOVE.

Seriously though, it brings to mind how common heterosexuality is in Cephiro.  On Earth it's the majority.  And we mostly see het couples in canon but there's no missing how Eagle feels about Lantis (and Hikaru) or Geo towards Eagle.  So that's an interesting thing to think about.

Emeraude's possibly the first to have this issue, or it's only happened once or twice before in all the Pillars in Cephiro's history, so I guess no one ever thought it would be a problem.

I assume cultural pansexuality in Cephiro. I think I said it somewhere on the boards - they have sentient non-human life, I think if they have hang-ups it would be over THAT rather than gender/sex, and no one seems to have an issue with Primera falling for Lantis.

So no one is going to assume the Pillar is straight, and therefore they wouldn't pick based on gender.

There's also the fact that the post of Soru presumably has its own laws, the same as the one of Guru - AND then there's the fact that the Pillar, at least from what we see with Emeraude, can/does take a mostly pre-puberty form, which means that physical attraction isn't going to be the issue. Sex is not the problem, here - it's love, and I think that would count whether it's romantic or not, just having that person who means more to you than anything and who you would give the world, if you could, to keep them from harm - which probably happens more often in romantic situations I guess for them, but which still doesn't mean that there's sexual attraction behind it? XD You could have an asexual Pillar and still run into the same thing.

Partly this comes from my idea of why Clef is never, not once, considered for the role - he loves too many people too specifically to ever be capable of being the Pillar and he knows it, whether or not he's also IN love with someone. He's willing to place the people he loves - Emeraude, all his students, the Knights - before the fate of Cephiro, which blatantly rules him out, and that decision only makes sense IF it rules him out because otherwise his becoming the Pillar would fit his need to protect them all from being hurt by the system quite nicely. (At least in the manga. XD I make no comments about 'IN love or not' for the anime.)

And on the flip side of that, Lantis and Eagle are both eligible because they are putting their wish before their feelings for another person. ^^

(I'm working, honest~ XD SLOW CONNECTION waiting for emails. *siiiiiiiiigh*)
