Dance Party! How are the characters at dancing?

Hopefully this is the right place for this. What I want to know is, how do you think everyone in MKR is at dancing/a dance party? I only have two headcanons so far:

Caldina would, naturally, be completely in her element. All over the dance floor doing her thing, people cheering for her, the works. She is the dancing queen, bar none.

Ascot, on the other hand, won't dance at parties at all. However, he does sometimes dance with just his beasts for fun. If anybody ever saw him... They'd die laughing. Because Ascot is the most embarrassingly awful dancer. Like, get a video of him dancing on youtube and it'd go viral within a day awful. No rhythm or coordination whatsoever.

What do you all think? Who else can bust a move? Who only does slow songs, who's the killer breakdancer, who tries to partner with everybody before the party ends, who's a great dance caller, who starts the conga line, who's the DJ, who does the Monkey?

Hikaru LOVES to dance, like, she'll get out there and boogey without a care.

Umi is very good at dancing, both freestyle and formal, and enjoys it.

Fuu doesn't mind it, she's okay at the more formal/slow stuff but when it comes to upbeat/freestyle she reluctantly shifts her weight from foot to foot and feels ridiculous.

Yeah, I could see all that. Poor Fuu. Well, she can hang out with Ascot on the side until the formal/slow songs come back on.

To answer some of my own questions: Either Ferio or Presea would start the conga line. Someone from Autozam would be the DJ.

Zazu as DJ, and Ascot is so not into the dancing so he hangs out around Zazu all night.  *tosses bone to Down*

"That's what you said all those other nights, too." Zazu gave him a playful grin, "Was there really nothing worth coming for for any of them?"

"Well, okay, there is one thing."

"And what's that?"

"The DJ's really something else."

Oh my gosh you guys the crack shipping going on over here oh man. 

I could see Presea being quite a good dancer, having probably been taught by Caldina in their free time. She usually prefers fast paced dances, as slower/couple dances just don't sit well with her for obvious reason. Usually, when the floor clears a bit, and the musicians slow, she'll leave the floor, and join Clef on the sidelines.

Clef, on the other hand, won't go out of his way to dance, partially because the only one he'd have be used to dancing with would've been Emeraude for logistical reasons, and thinking about her just stirs up bad thoughts and memories. So, he prefers to do something akin to this, thinking about what else he could be doing or watching the Knights fail at getting the hang of Cephirian dance at first:

Your headcanons have been accepted! Only addition is that Clef has to keep a close eye on his staff to keep it from being used as a limbo bar.

Also, apparently Umi and Fuu love square dancing, according to the manga. (Unless that was just a localization thing in my copy)

Mils has DISPATCHED ME to have feelings at this thread because, well, DANCING! (I did ballroom & latin american competition from 6-16 it's a thing I have FEELINGS about. Shockingly. XD

...........Plus I wrote a whole ball scene just to get Clef and Umi on the dancefloor or something. XD

(In return, she's looking up the square dancing thing, because I don't remember that at all and want to know what the original was?) (HAH it's 'WE MIGHT AS WELL BE FOLK DANCING in the Japanese - and folk dance is literally 'fouluku dansu' and an import word mostly used for folk dances from around the world - PARTICULARLY those brought in by the states during their occupation of Japan, so I think that actually THEY MIGHT HAVE LEARNT SQUARE DANCE IN SCHOOL AND ACTUALLY BE TALKING ABOUT THAT. Shockingly! A reasonable bit of translation!!!)

SO Caldina - is awesome at it, and blatantly so, any kind of dancing you want. Presea's pretty good once she's relaxed enough to enjoy herself but sometimes it's a bit of a negotiation to get her on the dance floor - Caldina's good at that, though. Which is good, because LaFarga is- well. He's good at being a FRAME in more formal styles for you to do something more interesting around as long as mostly you don't want him to do anything much more than a basic step, and useless at anything where he's meant to improvise, even with Caldina trying to pursuade him that it's JUST LIKE SPARRING. ....His style of fighting relies a lot more on strength than being nimble, so the comparasion doesn't work that well for him. XD

Ascot finds the whole thing very embarrasing, can't ignore the fact people are Watching Him (because he's hyper-aware of people's perceptions of him and has issues with wanting to be taken seriously and letting go control in general anyway PLUS the whole ~close to a person!~ thing which. I just. ASCOOOOOT. (And Zazu shoving some random music on when no one else is there and just wrapping him up in something more like a swaying hug than any kind of dance and Zazu is enthusiastic but ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE, imo, and promptly trips them up AS SOON AS THEY TRY TO MOVE, and then they're just piled on the floor in a laughing heap~)

Umi - is good at formal styles, learns them quickly - she does ballet, we know, and several people I know who did ballet also did bits of ballroom or other formal styles as warm-up/break? BUT directly BECAUSE of that (not that I know anything about this at all) she is TERRIBLE at the kinds of 'get on the dance floor and dance' thing you do at clubs and gets REALLY EMBARRASED ABOUT THIS. She's good at learning Cephiran dances and anything else with a routine though!

Hikaru - all enthusiasm and a SHOCKING LACK OF RYTHYM. :DDD She just - she bounces about and it's CUTE and COMPLETELY NOT IN TIME WITH THE MUSIC AT ALLLLLLLLLL she has to be dragged through something if you want her to stay on time. Awesome at complicated steps and balance, though! Just - struggles to get them in line with the music, and doesn't really care that she's terrible, just happily warns people that she'll probably stand on their feet and dances anyway.

Fuu: probably had training in at least one formal Japanese dance form, which is so far away from club dancing that it actually doesn't impact on her ability to do that at all. She can, she's just not too fond of anything too fast, because then she's paying attention to the dancing instead of the people she's WITH, and there are just - other things she'd rather be doing. Slow dancing, though - or slower dances, at least - that she can get behind.

Eagle: TERRIBLE. I don't know why, I just - apparently think he'd get distracted and forget what he's doing and especially if he's with someone he likes he ends up just kinda swaying and - he can do it if he CONCENTRATES he's just terrible at managing it~

Lantis, on the other hand, probably ended up in plenty of dance lessons as a child (along with Zagato) because it was good for balance! Co-ordination! Attempting to make him more sociable! And is a very good dancer, altogether.

Ferio is pretty awesome at it. An audience to entertain? Physical ability? Balance? YEP. Tick in every box. And he really, really likes dancing with the person he likes. Even if there isn't an audience. (Or music. Or - any steps!)

Clef - here I am SLIGHTLY DIVERGENT FROM Y'ALL :DDD because dude is more than SEVEN CENTURIES OLD, and that is - that's a lot of time. And I headcanon that he's been taller before! And decided on his current from when he was choosing to concentrate on his new role as Guru (and quite probably in solidarity with the Pillar, and because - well, he wasn't really bothered by the things it meant he wasn't going to be doing in that form, so why not? XD) So he can dance. Especially formal things, because then there's a routine he can learn, and his balance and sense of time aren't bad, so he's pretty good... partially because that is a LOT of time to practise. A LOT. XD He just - it's awkward when he's small, so it's one of those things he hasn't done for a while. And he doesn't like feeling embarrased, and he's out of practise, so - that informal party stuff? Not necessarily his thing. But stick him in a ballroom in the right mood and YES he can dance. (...Though he isn't going to waste time dancing with anyone he doesn't actually like. FRIENDS (and more if relevant) ONLY. :DD

I've probably forgotten half the main cast but I'm distracted by that image of Zazu and Ascot and I'm going to go away and contempate it now~ (or post in other threads ACTIVITY ON THE BOARD YAAAAAAY!)

It's probably supposed to be folk dance. I only have the '98 Tokyopop version of the first manga, and 'square dance' is what that one says.

And let me tell you about your little Zazu/Ascot ship. It started as cute. "Hey, green hats and color coordinated boyfriends, that's kinda fun." Then I started imagining them interacting. Like, Zazu being amazed by the beasts because they don't get that big in Autozam and Ascot being more than happy to talk about them (especially since Zazu's non-Cephiran), Zazu trying to get Ascot drunk to see what he's like, that sort of thing. Then I started coming up with headcanons for how they got into a relationship. Zazu would realize his feelings first. He'd start off saying things to Ascot like, "You know, if you were a girl, I'd totally date you." but soon figures out, hey, he wants to date him anyway. At some point, Eagle and Lantis would find out and try to give him a warning along the lines of "Dude, guys who think they're straight aren't worth the trouble" but Zazu's all "He's special! Love will find a way!" like the hopeless romantic he is. As for Ascot, he doesn't have any idea that Zazu could possibly feel like that until someone mentions it offhand and it triggers a big gay baby crisis (bi baby) in which he questions everything he ever knew about himself, but then he finally decides, hey, whatever he is, he does like Zazu. So they get together. And it's freaking adorable.

Long story short, I ship it now. I hope you're happy with yourself.

I am very happy with myself. >D Because - that's pretty much what happened to me. I thought HAH THAT'S CUTE about the artbook picture with Ascot's hand on Zazu's shoulder and both of them smiling, then started thinking HEH WHAT IF - BECAUSE ZAZU ISN'T GOING TO BE AFRAID OF ASCOT'S FRIENDS (though he will probably spend most of his time asking them if they can turn into giant robots because - Zazu) just CURIOUS and not scared of child geniuses becuase he is one, and - happy, and cheerful, and - ...aw heeeeeelp this works, doesn't it, THIS WORKS?!?!!!!!

..........OKAY NOW I HAVE TO TAKE DOWN AS MANY PEOPLE AS I CAN WITH ME INTO THIS MESS.

Though I have less of the freaking out about sexuality stuff in my version because I sincerely believe Cephiro's going to have more issues with cross-species relationships than same-gender ones (non-human sentient species! If anyone's going to freak out Primera should totally be the issue. XD;;;;;;; or any kind of expectiation of hetrosexuality (or even probably binary sex/gender concepts because if form follows will, then people will present as feels right to them without any surgical change, even if that changes through their life - I think it would be a far more fluid concept for them?) and no one seems bemused by Eagle's blatant attachment to Lantis, so I don't think Autozam's got much of an institutional thing  going on - and, well, I think Zazu's been more interested in his machines and engineering than people up to now. XDDDDDDD (Enough he might well go HUH, that's a thing? That's a thing!' at it when he notices, but I... don't think he'd bother stopping to analyse it much.

.....I think Ascot might well go ACK when faced with actual reciprocated feelings from another person, though, because accepting that and the possibility of a relationship and placing that kind of trust and intimacy in another person would probably be frightening, after being so hurt and alone for so long. But he's got some awesome examples about him~ And Zazu would just be BRIGHT and CHEERFUL at him and 'IT'S OKAY we have time whatever you need, don't be sad, come see this new engine I designed I think I can make a MINIATURE WORKING MODEL OF THE FTO WITH LASERS AND ALL it's going to be awesome!!' and then Ascot would get distracted by, er, trying to stop Zazu make a tiny army of foot-high FTOs because they're cute, yes, but WHY DO THEY NEED WORKING LASERS I DON'T THINK THIS IS A GOOD IDEA-

So - BASICALLY ALL MY FOCUS IS ON THE DORKY SWEETNESS AND ADORABILITY because they would be ADORABLE, they really would~

and their hat collection would be teh BEST >DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

Would they need an entire cupboard for hats? Shelves? Hooks???
