Mmmm... Yummy... *sighs happily, lost in beautiful shippy daydreams*
If your headcanon for Ascot's backstory doesn't make me want to cry, I probably won't believe it.

I'm super late to the party but I just want to say that Ascot and Umi are both adorable dorks and I love them forever that is all.

Unrelated to everything, but this image makes me lol.
Should have wished for unicorns.

A few of you have said something along the lines of Umi being more 'contents under pressure' in the anime. Honestly, the more I consider it, the less I think that's really the issue. I mean, if anything, wouldn't that be more of a problem for Clef, who has 'silence' listed as one of his favorite things and 'rowdiness' as least favorite?

No, the problem with Asmi in the anime is that Umi just plain doesn't acknowledge Ascot like she did in the manga. Sure, she's grateful when he saves her life, but that's a pretty low bar to pass. I think I could muster up some grudging gratitude and a visit or two to the hospital for even my soul-sucking ex-coworker if she happened to save my life. The anime's missing those moments where she's just enjoying spending time with him, the cute moments she shares with Yaris (bird-man beastie), the moments that convince you that even if Umi doesn't end up having romantic feelings for Ascot, the two of them are still really good friends. They make it look so one-sided in the anime, when in the manga, you see exactly why he would be falling for her more just about every time they interact.

Yet another reason the anime annoys me. *grumble grumble*
