Shipping variety is always limited when the fandom is five people and a potato.

I think part of the appeal of non-canon shipping in other fandoms is that the creators haven't made enough of a case for the canon ships.

I think another factor in non-canon shipping (at least, in het non-canon shipping) is whether or not the series/work/whatever is finished when the fandom really starts to get going. I have a limited experience, of course, but out of the various fandoms I'm interested in, the only ones that have a strong het non-canon ship for one of the male protagonists are the ones that were still ongoing when the fandom really got started.

Fuu and Ferio will always be my favourite Rayearth couple. I've loved them since the first time I read the story... If only their relationship had been deepened... I hope that CLAMP revives Rayearth someday and show the marriage between these two <3
