How did you discover Rayearth?

I know i don't post much but I finally thought of a topic that was actually pretty good... so yes, how did you discover rayearth?

I was christmas shopping on Amazon looking for something to put on my list because eh, I had nothing an wanted very little that year, so I added onto my list some videos that looked kinda good.  and they happened to be from Rayearth season two.  I got the first two in the series and loved it and from then on was absolutly enchanted and started writing fanfiction lol XD

So how 'bout you?

A girl on a Final Fantasy message board...way back...indirectly recommended it to me.  So, my junior high school friends and I bought the VHS tapes piece meal and slowly watched it.  Unfortunately, being rather broke, we didn't get very far... ^^U

I actually only saw the entire series last summer when the (cheap!) DVD box sets came out...then I marathoned them, bought all the manga, and was ensnared by you lot.
"We know what we are, but know not what we may be" ~ Hamlet -  Scene 4, Act 5

I'd heard of it and seen some images (most notably on the Anime Coloring Book site) but it never really looked interesting.  In 10th grade in my basic art class, I used to talk to this freshman named Justin.  He was into anime, too, and lent me the first MKR manga.  Said it was good.  He had even done a really nice copied sketch of Hikaru bathed in flames where she recieves her magic.  Took it home and read it.  I was hooked immediately.
Fun fact:  The first time I read the manga through, I pictured Umi's hair as being light yellow.  I looked at the cover again and was like, Oops.

I looked the series up online as soon as I finished the first volume and the next day, ran out and bought the first VHS at Suncoast.  Man, I was hooked.  It took months to see the entire first season because Suncoast very often didn't have the next VHS that I needed in Japanese.  I refused to watch the dub before I even saw how bad it was. :P  I eventually just ordered the second season boxed VHS set off the Internet.  I don't think our Suncoast had any of season two subbed. *facepalm*

Aaaand I bought the manga in an unboxed set some months after finishing the anime.

I remember I first borrowed it from Justin in October 2000 and finished the anime in late 2001, I think.

What started me on Rayearth....

Well, back in the old days..( aka High school)? I used to get much of my anime from frineds who had money to spend and were allowed to go to the mall (yeah, Mils couldn't go to the mall when she was younger..wtf?). One day my friend Tatum lent me three tapes.? Tenchi in Tokyo, Revolutionary Girl Utena, And Magic Knight Rayearth.? Well, she had this habit of buying the last tape of a series and if she liked the ending she would buy the rest of the series.? She was one of those backwards book readers too.? I hate those...? Anyhow.? Utena was the first tape of the series, so I watched it right off.? I liked it and evenutally found another friend? who had everything.? Tenchi was a middle tape, so I put it off fo a bit and gave in a watched it.? Noticing that the MKR tape I had was the four til episode 20...? I wasn't too happy and decided I wouldn't watch it and just return it.?

Back then, I still lived with my mother and had more sleepless nights at that house for any number of reasons. I just need somthing different to watch to take my mind off things, so I popped in the MKR tape and said "what the hell.".? I am ashamed to say, that I did like the english version of the opening song, but it was more the words I liked than Sandy Fox singing it.? Given that it was the final tape of season one, it was rather hard to follow the story.?

"So these girls are going to go fight that dude.? The Red haired one is Misikaru...? I think....? ?And they are following that marshmellowy thing and ..what is that lion thing and why is it on fire?? ?HOLY SHIT!!!? THEY KILLED THE PRINCESS?!!!!!!!!!"

I was a little scarred after that.? Later, I was able to get my hands on tape one.? It made more sense then.? Th next tape I saw was at the same friend's sleep over.? Tape one of season two.? ?This one ened with OMGWTFBBQ??!!? of the Umi/Clef pairing.? ?That was the most disturbing thing that my brain ever processed...? at least it seemed so at the moment.? After the the Amon/Robin relationship (25/15)? really didn't bother me.? ? I did discover fanfiction until a bit later, as I had only just gotten internet access at home and was still trying to figure out how it worked.

For the next year my friends Tatum, Joy (Sakuya Hecila on FFN), and I worked on procuring the entire second season.? after we had seen all of that, we vetured into the fanfiction realm.? I began work on my first two multi Chaptered fics, Seven Year Separation, and What Have I Done.? At this time, I began carrying a three ring binder that I kept my scribbled writings in.? That thing was stolen every lunch period by my friedt rabid readers, my frineds.? Now.? I don't even know what they saw in it.? I think it sucks.

/long windedness

XD I hadn't read the manga until fall 2003... *sigh* at that point in time I didn't own anything but Sailor Moon Manga because I was trying to collect all of them.  But I met my now husband and he had Chobits and he asked what series I liked, and I said Rayearth but handn't read any manga, he told me he had some and would give it to me, I believe he bought it just for me lol I'd known him all of two weeks.  He was a sweetie.  And by the time my birthday rolled around I was swimming in rayearth manga cause he was working at borders books! LOL good old days!

Well I saw a picture of Umi and was like this O_O... and just had to see the anime XD...
Gliding through a river light.

HOKAI. I ... am probably the girl who is one of the newbies to the fandom, yo. xD

It was the start of my Junior year of high school. Haha, so you see how new I am to this? I actually just ended my Junior year of High School almost a month ago. More to the topic, though, I wore a shirt that said 'ANIME JUNKIE' to school on my first day. My second period class at that time was American History, Mr. Cieplinski.

There was a girl in that second period class. She LOVED anime. And after spending a few days in the class with her, she told me that she was getting together a Rayearth cosplay, and she wanted me to be Fuu.

Ooookay. I was down with that. One problem, though. What's Rayearth?

It was then .. that my infatuation began. Mindy (the anime-lover girl) lent me the first two volumes of the manga, and I was immediately hooked. I just loved every bit of it. xD Soon, I went and got myself the third volume, and started working on the cosplay (which some of ya'll have seen. XD I ended up going solo, unfortunately). For Christmas last year, I received the entire series of Rayearth, both season one and season two, on DVD. =D So, that made me happy.

Okay. So that's how I ended up joining this big group of crack addicts Rayearth fans. x3
I'm that girl who changes her avatar a little too often. x3 And proud.

Ahh well in the old school days :: iz beaten :: lol, anyways we had just gotten internet in '95 so I was checking out some Ranma sites and building my own sailor moon one (I ADMIT IT! I WAS A MOONIE!) when I came across RG Veda fansub site. I got it and then started to check out other CLAMP works. in 1995/6(?) I read about Rayearth on a CLAMP site and was desperate to get ANYTHING. I already had bought imports of the bgm cd's but untill it was released domestically I had to wait. So when it got out a friend of mine, who is in the money as I will put it, bought all the vhs' and we watched them ... STRAIGHT into the night (first four vhs). I was hooked and swallowed up any rayearth bit I could get my hands on.
Welcome to the Eagle Vision Show!

I downloaded a Rayearth AMV just because I liked the song.
Then I was like, "Woah! what is this bizarre anime?!"
Then I looked it up on Wikipedia.
Went on a few websites.
Read a few fanfics.

Then downloaded the series :D
This was a few years ago. No idea when.
Should have wished for unicorns.
