Soooo... am I the only one who wrote well-intentioned but terribly-written Rayearth fic years and years ago when I sucked as a writer and am now constantly paranoid our reestablished fandom here and on Tumblr has read any of it and wants to crawl in a hole somewhere?

Bless my social anxiety for keeping me from making too many mistakes on the internet as a teen. My biggest fanfic regrets usually never made it past notebook form.
I still have a lot of those notebooks, but I made sure certain ones were burned as soon as I realized how bad they were. One of them had a Rapture AU. With a blatant self-insert. Don't do fundie, kids. Seriously.

Well there was the one-shot about Umi punishing herself in various self-harming ways (mostly deliberately restricting her sleep) as penance for killing Emeraude and Zagato, that wasn't unnecessary or trying to be edgy or totally offensive in its portrayal of mental illness at all.

(I also seriously did not do either of those sassypants justice.)
And then there's Standing on the Sky. Oh my god. We have:
1. Way too many original characters serving no real purpose (though I insisted they were important to the plot)
2. Antagonists with unclear motives and origins that never get cleared up
3. No plot planning at all leading to gaping plot holes and really shabby attempts at resolving issues in the narrative
4. Just peppered with weeaboo Japanese lingo
5. Really unnecessary levels of character death
6. God like seriously wtf did I do to Presea why was this fic a thing really
7. Also seriously Cerise's will was strong enough to keep the Knights stranded in Cephiro WHY WASN'T SHE FUCKN PILLAR THEN
Although I DID like the expansions into Cephiran culture/daily life I played with (it mostly had to do with food - I literally invented FIVE GODDAMNED CHARACTERS to support innumerable scenes of characters eating so I could blab about Cephiran food). And although I went pretty overboard, I do like that I was willing to venture into Main Character Death. Just... not in such a pointless and badly-written fic.
Any time my plot-convenient asshole OC showed up was a mistake. His name was Craig, and he had no purpose other than to be an all-around douchebag and borderline mustache twirling villain. He was the dick boyfriend, the guy plotting to break up a relationship cause he wanted to get with the girl, the school bully, and he was never given any justification or motivation for his actions beyond that. (Well, I did manage to humanize him eventually, just not in fanfic. One of my original stories does him way more justice)
Also, I regret pretty much any time I tried to write sex. Because wow, teenage virgin who hadn't yet figured out their asexuality and didn't understand why it was so hard for people to just not have sex, you had absolutely no idea what you were doing and it makes me cringe just thinking about it.
Should've just stuck with, "And then they did the sex. It was hot." ala Rev. ;)
omg Craig, that is a name I never expected to see in MKR fic.
god how about I thought it was original and ~so romantique~ to end an AU getting-together Fuu/Ferio fic with a birth scene? I mean not in detail, but the whole "okay one more push!", "oh she's so beautiful", "I wuv you so muchy much, Ferio" just the kind of stuff you think is just part of ~a love story~ when you're 15. :b

Thankfully, it was mostly for other fandoms? I wasn't massively active for MKR, instead I just cheered on Camisado's fic writing.
Actually, that's a lie, I just checked my ff.net account and saw fic I've forgotten about and now I'm cry. Self-inserts and trying too hard to be EDGY. Urrrrrgh.
I legit never attempted to write smut as a teenager because I was firmly ace from a young age and didn't care for it. But now, at the ripe old age of 25, I'm attempting it and MY GOD, I write one rude word and then have to go hide in shame somewhere. I'm terrible.

Oh man, may Mokona forgive us all. XDD But I think it's a great evolution to realize how the problematic stuff from some of old fics (that went right over the head at some point in the past for me, at least). So we're all repenting. XD
I still have one fic up on ff.net that I just look at and shake my head the rest was blissfully erased long ago I no longer have any tracks thank aaaall. I just- man, trying to be edgy in your teens - specially when you're yer regular good kid - is so... ugh. I shouldn't go there again I hope.

My very first fandom was Star Wars and there was a particular character in the EU that I absolutely adored, so on a Star Wars only fanfic archive, under another username, I have an unfinished fic featuring that character as the main character and there were so many problems with that fic, in part because it was my very first fanfic ever.

Mara Jade. The very first EU book I ever read was
The Last Command, when I was in seventh grade, and I sort of imprinted on her for a while. Also, I'm still grumpy about the "EU is non-canon" thing, too.
Mara Jade is AWESOME aaaaaaaaaaaaaah I think from what I remember that one of the biggest reasons I got irritated with the NJO books (aside from the fact they felt like they were just trying to - make everything BIGGER and SCARIER and MORE DEADLY and stuff than before, which just made it feel like Dragonball Z or something where everyone just keeps levelling up and it's a NEW EPIC LEVEL and then occasionally killing people off to make it EDGY and stuff and - ER YES WHAT WAS I SAYING (...I didn't like the style of several of the writers at the time I think, too, but.) ASIDE FROM THAT I remember being irritated that Mara jade didn't seem to get to do anything of her own?? More like she was a side-character in Luke's storylines than a main character in her own story.
But then, I haven't reread any of those for about a decade so I might well be VERY WRONG in my recollections XD

OR SOMETHING. At which point he is half dead and also can't hide his wings on earth. ...I'm not sure where that one even came from.

Only that was looking ABOVE HIS STATION and THE SUN - who was Mokona, obvs, didn't like him and banished him to a different solar system and there's a whole thing where this comes out because they find a spaceship and it has Saturn's last message to him?? And it's Mokona going LOOK HE'S NOT HUMAN DON'T TRUST HIM but they all turn on Mokona and - I have no idea, I was obsessed with Sailor Moon and reading all the greek and roman legends again and decided that the planets were the gods and went to earth occasionally or something um.
-UMI IS TURNED INTO A SIREN accidentally there's a rock she's drawn to which she's not meant to touch, DAMMTI UMI - and the villagers try to kill her/Clef who is protecting her. And they run away through a snowstorm. (And eventually end up living in the water shrine as outlaws while Ferio and Fuu and Hikaru work on changing laws and culture and stuff? And Umi and Clef have ISSUES with LIKING EACH OTHER because Umi's terrified she's accidentally compelling Clef into wanting to sleep with her!) (Because I have no shame I am terribly tempted to pick this one up again when i'm in weird moods.)

You know, now that I read this question again, I have another answer. I'd tried to write a High School!AU back in my first fandom adventure, but my current High School!AU is a very different beast from the original.
For one, the current one has a lot more Ascot. Because I realized that while ultimately, I love all the characters (save Debonair and Sierra because their existence was just so pointless), Ascot is the one that truly inspires me, and working with that rather than forcing myself to devote equal time to everybody just makes things flow so much better. (Will add more later. Gotta go to work now.)
I think it's interesting so many of our early fic involves 'edginess', like it's not quite a phenomena but there's some sort of pattern emerging there?
If I could go back, I wish I wrote more? And I wish I wrote more lengthier stuff as well, I still suffer from short fic-itis. It's like, "man, I've written so much, word count time! What do you mean this is only 800 words long?!"

god, it's so true though. I think it's an age thing? most of us were probably teenagers, yeah? I think it's not uncommon for teens to try really hard to be deep and show that they're Thinking Deep Shit Too, but it just comes out as being ~so edgy~ I didn't feel I was trying to be "edgy", but in retrospect, that's exactly what I was trying to do.
I'm just glad I got my Mary Sues out of my system before I got into MKR. Toonami-era DBZ is a better home for them, anyway. *pats DBZ*
Edgy? Yeah, right. Teen me was about as edgy as a styrofoam ball. On edge, perhaps. So afraid of people seeing what I wrote to the point that "What if I were to die now and people were to read this?" was a serious concern, and at the time, most of the people I knew were also fundies. Meaning I was basically trying to write young adult Christian Literature. ???
Okay, back to what I was saying about my High School!AU. Another change is that it's actually 'edgier' now than it was back then. Before it was just high school students doing totally cliche high school stuff and falling in love, but now it's got incompetent backyard breeders, families that suck the life out of you for your own good, class divides, figuring out your sexuality/gender, etc. I mean, it's still not even that edgy, just dealing with issues a lot thornier than my original Archie comic-esque High School!AU would've.

I think the Sailor Moon fandom caught a lot more of my awkward teenage fanfiction woes than MKR did. Thankfully none of that was ever posted to the internet and remains buried in dusty notebooks.
In my younger years I was strangely drawn to crossovers and smashing series together in awkward romances and stuff. I swear I wrote a Yu-Gi-Oh/Sailor Moon cross over once, that was a train wreck if ever there was one. Aah to be young and crazy...
Oddly enough I didn't start brandishing around OCs until I started my MKR fic Ice and Snow and I generally get complements on those OCs so I guess I did okay? I guess I didn't get away from the crossover bug though, considering Ice and Snow is MKR channeling a lot of XXXholic and some Tsubasa, via a fairytale from DNAngel.
But there is that one sex scene I did in a differnt MKR fic, I just ugh, I really need to go back and rewrite that, but I'm almost too ashamed to, it's that bad.

I can't remember the title of this one but while I was walking the dog for a nice elderly lady in my village, whose son-in-law just happened to be Julian Fellowes (of Downton Abbey fame /namedrop), I based a whole fanfic around Fuu walking Ferio's grandmother's dog, and his dad being a Julian Fellowes equivalent, and god knows what else. It was FULL of OCs, Clef was Ferio's cousin, and Fuu's best friend was a girl called Stevie, and Hikaru and Fuu were only very briefly mentioned. Also inserted-Rev was dating Clef. Good times.
Lane's End: in which Ferio is a vet(erinarian) part-timing as an animal control/welfare officer and he rescues Fuu in his little airport shed after she is knocked over by a luggage truck (WHY DIDN'T HE CALL AN AMBULANCE???). She has amnesia. She goes to live with him, his border collie (Shippu), his one-eyed cat (Frankie), his duck (Nigel) and his Shetland pony (Clover). They fall in love. Clef owns the vets that Ferio works at, Presea is his wife but he's having an affair with Rev. Hikaru works for the RSPCA. Umi is part of the modelling agency Emeraude also works for. I appear in cosplay as Subaru from Tokyo Babylon.
Nobody questions anything.
The Next Princess of Cephiro: Ferio and Fuu get married. Fuu gets pregnant. Some weird wind mage captures Fuu because he wants her to be his wife. Ferio and Clef rescue her. Nobody goes to Cephiro-jail. ?????
Townsend's Private Detectives: Based on, of all things, 70s Charlie's Angels and
Smokey and the Bandit. Police thing??? Ferio is formerly totes gay with Lantis. He gets all angsty all the time. Umi hooks up with Ascot, Presea is Bosley and Clef is Charlie. There are F1 cars and quad bikes involved. Fuu gets pregnant and flees back to Japan from wherever the flip this thing was set. Ferio goes to Japan and wins her back. I don't fucking know.
Witchcraft: The girls are witches, Ferio has a Shaman King-style spirit accompanying him who is literally Vivian from Paper Mario, and his twin brother,
oh my god the first appearance of Daijirou, has a cat thing called Doppelganger. They all attend a school that is v religious, so that all goes down really well. Fuu is well in love with Ferio but he's a stoner and comes from an angsty home (siamese twins separated at birth and omg reunited at school!!!), Daijirou's parents are literally Sally and Flynn from Home and Away, a doctor and a teacher. There's a halloween party where Ferio and Daijirou dress as hookers. Probably there was meant to be some sort of end game thing where they fight to save the world, but I never got that far.
Also, the twincest, which Rev and I will never speak of again.Finally, I can't remember the name, but it was one of my most recent pre-Last Train Home fanfics, and Rev and I fondly refer to it as "Teh Jolly Fic" because it was so damn downright depressing. Ferio has leukaemia, he saves Fuu from getting sexually harassed on the train and they start sort-of dating. Daijirou appears in this fanfic but he's away somewhere being absolutely terrified about donating marrow to save his bro. Then Fuu gets raped. WHY.
WHY. I think I had teen depression when I wrote it. There are still ten chapters of this shit in my Dropbox and I'm afraid to read it.

*raises hand* I was absolutely o b s e s s e d with Sailormoon when I discovered it at 13. it's the reason we got the internet. I watched the DiC dub VHSes
daily and made my friends watch them at my 14th birthday party (cringes). it's the reason I started really drawing "seriously" (if I can call it that haha). I was nucking futs for it.
but I didn't make a self-insert or any ACTUAL fan senshi. the closest I did was this: I had a binder with each of the "Sailor Scouts" drawn on sheets of notebook paper. and I started assigning characters to everyone I knew. (I made my friend Molly be Molly/Naru-chan, of course). like, I basically forced them to humor me. (I had absolutely zero self-awareness) then, when I ran out of Inner Scouts, Tuxedo Mask, Andrew/Motoki and Melvin/Umino (I made a kid I hate be Melvin!) I started designing really really horrid "outer" Scouts. which I was vaguely aware of, from using the internet at the library one single time. then I ran out of planets so I started using Sun, Earth, Galaxy, etc, as well as Zodiac signs. because outer space.
and then the leader of my church group told me I couldn't bring the binder around anymore because 1) it was distracting - a legit reason, and 2) it "was not godly", meaning they thought it had to do with space and horoscopes S C A R Y S H I T
anyway I just needed to confess that embarrassing stuff.
I never did anything more with those 'characters', never even drew them more than once. so I don't really count myself as having done fan senshi or really
anything self-inserty or ficcy with BSSM! no, I saved that for when I got into Dragonball Z........
soooo all that bullshit was out of my system by the time I discovered Rayearth a year after the DBZ stuff started. of course, I truly discovered shipping at that point. . .

Cause I know I have. In fact, it was a Sailor Moon/Gundam Wing fic that somehow managed to find itself in the Pokemon world.
*raises hand* Of course, I'm not sure I really count, since I didn't actually get into Sailor Moon until Crystal came out.
Oh my god! I completely forgot about this thread. I think I just died from laughing at some of these.
Um.... I think the ultimate crack thing was my damn multi-cross over fic. MKR, Sailor Moon, AND Gundam Wing all in the Harry Potter universe. With multiple self-insert OCs of myself, my friends, and my long time imaginary pets. Which was also baby-fic, because that creates DRAMA.
Though, to be honest, I tend to gravitate toward baby fic, because that seems to have been my one plot line FOREVER. Like even my Barbies were accidental teen moms when I was a kid. I think it might have to do with the original explanation of where babies come from being described as an overflow of love or something. "They loved each other so much they made a baby" So, of course, if my characters love each other lots, they will make a baby.
Though, I will admit that reading really bad smut fic in fandom dispelled some of my other confused notions about how sex worked.
Just remember folks, some of these fic will not die until we're all gone, because we remember reading them, even if they have been deleted.
SO APPARENTLY I never admitted to the album-fic on here so - a fic where every chapter is a song-fic for a track off Evanescence's first album, Fallen! THIS WAS SUCH A HAPPY FIC
-It starts off with the Knights knowing they will Never Ever be able to get back to Cephiro and all depressed
-Umi jumps off Tokyo Tower at the end of chapter one (and is not certain she's not dead for the rest of the fic) (Until the bit where she's completely dead, after which she is sure, I guess?)
-She's the protagonist and she permenantly dies several chapters from the end
-She has to wake up from a coma in order to defeat a Great Evil and sacrifice herself to do this
-She was in the coma because THE FIC WAS JUST TOO DEPRESSING
-Umi and Clef have a Tragic Spirit Baby
-It is Tragic because Umi is Already Dead and also because they NEVER GOT TO ~CONSUMMATE THEIR LOVE~ (accidental baby WITHOUT ANY SEX, shockingly this is not the only time I have written this)
-Ferio has to stop Clef from destroying Cephiro in his Terrible Grief and they raise the baby together
-Until Clef decides it's old enough and gives up on living???
-It's Okay Though, spirit!baby has Ferio as the ONLY SANE PERSON IN THIS
-I think Ascot was disillusioned and had Unwise Relations With People In Some Village Tavern but seriously escaping out of this fic to hang with random OCs was probably the best ending anyone got
-I guess Ferio also survives but he's left holding someone else's baby and Torn Asunder From Fuu Forever so, er, yeah
I wrote a bunch of bits of this but MOSTLY I drew chapter covers. If I ever find them I shall share :D
